Welcome to our weekly wallpaper series, where we attempt to remove whatever boring standard desktop wallpaper came with your computer, phone, tablet, or any other device with a screen—and replace it with something better. Something, preferably, with four wheels and a fantastic exhaust note.
This week's wallpaper features the classic Mercedes 450SL, owned by one of our customers. When he came in to pick up parts, and after the marketing team's jaws were picked up off the floor, we took our cameras and went outside for an impromptu photo shoot.
The Mercedes 450SL is a timeless, yet controversial, design. At the time, it was called unsightly - featuring more angular lines than that of the outgoing W113 series. Even with the stark change in design, the R107 was Mercedes' longest-produced series behind the G-series. Running from 1972 to 1989, over 237,000 were shipped; with over half landing in the United States. Many of the features that made this car controversial are what also made it so successful. New, modern crash safety, re-designed suspension, and a constantly updated line-up of motors helped the R107 outlast the competition.
This particular customer's car immediately caught our eye with it's amazing color and wheel combo. Not to mention just how clean it was while being driven in the winter! All of these photos were shot by Kyle Bento, right here at FCP Euro. Check out his Instagram if you like what you see.
