When it comes to the F25 X3 and F26 X4, BMW uses hydraulic engine mounts, which means that they're fluid-filled. When these types of engine mounts fail, you will start to experience the symptoms almost immediately. Failing engine mounts should be replaced at the first sign of symptoms to prevent unnecessary wear on other driveline components.

BMW F25 X3 and F26 X4 Engine Mount Replacement Symptoms

The whole job of your engine mounts are to connect your engine to your subframe while limiting the amount of vibration transfered to the cabin of the car. When your mounts begin to fail, that vibration begins to show up in nearly every form of driving. This isn't just an annoyance, either. If you let your mounts go long enough without replacement, they can allow so much movement that the alignment of your drivetrain components changes. This puts stress on parts that were never designed to take that stress. Replacing your engine mounts should be done for both your own comfort, and the longevity of your car.

The symptoms of failing engine mounts on your F25 X3 or F26 X4 are:

  • Engine vibration
  • Drivetrain vibration
  • Engine leaning in the engine bay
  • Engine rocking during gear changes
  • Engine rocking during braking

These engine mounts take quite a bit of force so you want to start checking them for failure around the 50,000-mile mark.

If you bring your F25 X3 or F26 X4 to the dealer or shop to have your engine mounts replaced, it could run upward of $650 for labor and parts. By doing the job yourself, it will only cost you a small fraction of that. Plus, when your engine mounts inevitibly fail again, you can replace them for free using our Lifetime Replacement Guarantee
