The Volvo 245 is part of the 240 series and all 240s brought to the U.S. were fuel injected. These cars were available from 1974 to 1993 in Europe and the 245 was brought to the US market in 1976. The 245 was a 5 door wagon variant of the 240 series, hence the number 5 as the third digit in 245. Interestingly enough about one third of the Volvo 240 series cars sold were station wagons that offered ample space and comfort. These models feature a very large cargo space and also had a foldable jump seat making the 245 a 7-passenger vehicle. The jump seat in the wagon came with three-point seat belts and the wagons had reinforced floor sections for protecting its extra occupants. The Volvo 245 came with an OHC B21F engine just in time for the 1996 model year. Volvo 245 models came equipped with 245 original parts including an engine known as the ""red block"" which is a 2.1 liter four-cylinder engine. There were two versions of the red block engine produced; both were overhead valve and overhead cam engines that were installed into the 245 models.
