Take off your wheel with a lug wrench and use a socket and ratchet to detach the rear control arm-bushing bracket where it connects to the body. You are now ready to take off the nut and detach the front stabilizer from your control arm with the socket and ratchet. Take off the nut that links the control arm to the cross member with a ratchet and socket. Knock out the stud from the cross member with a rubber mallet. Use your socket and ratchet to take off the bolts that join the hub to your BMW’s struts and add a mark on the lower control arm where the ball joint joins to it. This will allow for precise alignment for the new ball joint. Next, take off the cotter pin and nut from the ball joint using your ball joint tool to push the ball joint out of the control arm. Put the new ball joint in the control arm and line it up with the mark you just made. Use your ball joint tool to push your new ball joint into the control arm. Install the nut using your socket and ratchet and then put the cotter pin in to secure the nut. Put back the hub to the struts and secure the bolts with a socket and ratchet. Put back the front stabilizer to the control arm and secure it with your socket and ratchet, as well. Now put back the stud and control arm to the cross member and secure it up with a ratchet and socket. Next, just attach the rear control arm back on the body and then secure it. Put your wheel back on and lower your BMW. You should duplicate these steps for the other side of the vehicle.
