Brake pad wear sensors are used to monitor the thickness of your vehicle's brake pad friction lining. When the minimum safe thickness is reached the pad wear sensor comes into contact with the brake rotor and opens the circuit which in turn triggers a warning on your instrument cluster notifying you that it is time to service your brakes. Whether or not the pad wear sensor has been triggered it is highly recommended to replace the pad wear sensor when replacing brake pads. They tend to become fragile with age and can easily break when removed from old brake pads causing false warnings after completing the service,

Disc Brake Pad Wear Sensor

Disc Brake Pad Wear Sensors, or Brake Pad Sensor, as they're commonly called, are used as an instrument to alert the driver when the brake pads of the vehicle are at a low level and are in need of replacement. Operation of the sensor is simple where it is wired to the brake control module with 12v and when the brake pad becomes low enough, the sensor will ultimately surface and make contact with the rotor which in turn grounds the sensor and completes the circuit which triggers the light in your instrument cluster. The Brake Pad Wear Sensor is recommended to be replaced at the time of brake pad replacement.

It functions exactly as expected, firmly fitting into the brake pad and routing nicely to the plastic junction box connector.

Same as with my rear wear sensor review: No issues, fit perfectly as expected. I did notice that these wear sensors (Including my BMW OE item) are quite large, and they will make contact when you still have a good bit of pad material left. You obviously SHOULD NOT wait until you reach the metal base of the pad. If you get the warning, you don't need to freak out, you have plenty of time to change the pads.
