Engine Timing Chain Kit

An engine timing chain is a crucial component in an internal combustion engine that synchronizes the rotation of the crankshaft and camshafts. It ensures that the engine's valves open and close at the proper times during each cylinder's intake and exhaust strokes, maintaining optimal engine performance. Timing chains are typically made of metal and are designed to last for the life of the engine, though they can wear out or become damaged over time. Damaged or stretched chains can impact the timing on an engine and overwork the tensioner, failures in this system can cause catastrophic engine failure and costly repairs.

Engine Timing Chain Kit Failure Symptoms

Noise: A common symptom of a failing timing chain is a rattling or slapping noise coming from the engine, especially during startup or acceleration. This noise may be more pronounced at idle or startup
Poor Engine Performance: If the timing chain is stretched, it can lead to decreased power, acceleration problems, or sluggish performance

Great Kit Except One Part

Bought this kit to replace the timing chains and guides on a 2012 VW Tiguan w/ the CTAA. All the parts matched up perfectly except one part, VAG-06H109469AQ, one of the balance chain guides. When held up next to the original, they were shaped differently and bolt holes did not line up. Had to put the original back in the engine. Otherwise, the remainder of the kit pit perfectly and the Tiguan is running great with no oil leaks after a month of install using the VW sealant on the lower timing cover. I would scratch up the mounting surface of the lower timing cover before apply the sealant since the surface is pretty smooth.
