This Camshaft Locking tool is used in the front of the engine to lock the camshaft gears in place reducing the need to install the rear camshaft locking tool which can be time consuming and expensive. Simplify your timing job with this simple to use tool.

Get a vice and some pliers
This seemed like a really simple and useful tool to keep the camshaft gears in timing while replacing the belt however it barley did even that. I could get 2, sometimes 3 of the pegs slotted between the gears if it's crooked but it seems that the pegs get really close to lining up and miss. Perhaps it's not compatible with my Volvo 850?

Does the job
It's a tight fit getting it into the gears, but once it is in, it is very snug. Cheaper than rear locking, and is easy to put in. Great buy if you're doing multiple timing belt jobs.

cam locking tool
bought it for use on my 07 s60 with 2 vvt's. was not changing cam seals-just belt kit. went on review of another customer-tool fit but i didn't think it fit tightly and so i didn't use it. i'm sure it works for what it is intended for but wish i could find tool that works for these engines without having to buy locking tool for back of cams. will probably invest in back of cam locking tool in near future. good quality tool otherwise.

Sturdy tool, Good Price, & Works on others.
A few 850's, a few 98 S70's. No problems. Good sturdy tool AND despite the description, worked just fine on a 2000 GLT SE with single exhaust VVT as well as a 2005 S60 2.5T AWD with dual VVT

Fantastic little tool took the worry out of changing the timing belt. Worked perfectly. Well worth the cost to ensure cam gears stay put once the belt is removed. Allowed me to replace the water pump, tensioner and idler pulleys and hydrolic tensioner, bumping into the cam gears repeatedly.... they never moved a bit.

Was helpful but not the greatest
Even with use of tool needed to check positions. Some movement seen so was helpful but not sure if I would order again.

Very helpful
Well made and worth the price. It was challenging to get down beside the engine and clean the water pump mounting surface and I'm sure without the cam lock tool, I would have had the cams rotating all over. The tool was easy to use and worth the price for the piece of mind and time it would have taken to realign the cams. I may not ever use it again but that's OK.
