Here at FCP Euro we are not only passionate about cars and the industry but what really gets our blood pumping is ... well ... racing.

There is no better feeling than taking your car to the limit in a controlled environment and counting the smiles per gallon.

Sometimes we get into a dilemma about racing and not knowing which direction to go in terms of modding our cars, what rules we have to follow, where we can actually race, what are the costs etc.

SCCA

We have sat down and decided to create a friendly guide for introducing you to Auto-X racing within the rules of SCCA (Sports Car Club of America). This is the least expensive way of learning about both the car and yourself.

Our kits will stay within the limits of the rules upon the given class they are designed for. Here we will also give you tips on items you need to consider when going racing.

Before you purchase any additional parts for your MK7 GTI we urge you to take it to an Auto-X and get a good baseline both of the car and your capabilities. The last thing we would want is for you to spend money to make your car something you are not happy with.

G Stock

A MK7 VW GTI will run in a category called G Stock (GS) Within this category the following major groups of components are allowed:

  • Spacers up to 7mm with stock wheels
  • Brake Pads (Any)
  • Rear Sway bar with links
  • Spark Plugs/Coils
  • Drop in Air Filter Only
  • Cat Back Exhaust
  • Catch Can (As long as emissions components are in tact)
  • Silicone Hoses

This is just a quick break down and there are a few more items to look for but for now at the basic level we will not be talking about them. If you wish to learn move about SCCA classes and rules you can find their Street Category write up on page 61 of the 2018 rule book which can be found HERE

Tires are allowed to be changed only to a UTQG rating of 200 or higher. No R-Compound tires in the stock classes. When choosing a tire to stay on your stock wheels you are limited by tire sizes to something around the 225/40/18 size. You can go slightly wider 235/35/18 but you are limited by the stock wheel width of 7.5 inches.

Our focus with this GS friendly kit is starting you off with dialing in the rear end of the car without breaking the bank.

Suspension

We are including an Adjustable Sway Bar from 034 Motorsport along with Rear End Links to keep that sway bar attached to the chassis with lots of adjustability available in between. With this you will be able to dial in the rear end of the car and dial out some of the understeer that this chassis is designed with. We have also added a set of 5mm spacers to help push the stock wheels out and provide a slightly wider track. This will aid in handling stability.

Braking

We are also including 2 liters of ATE TYP 200 Brake Fluid which has the perfect characteristics for a driver that likes to drive spiritedly and occasionally participate in an Auto-X or an HPDE.

HPDE is a High Performance Driver Education class which includes time at a physical track with your own car and matches you with instructors and classes to make sure you are prepared to handle yourself at the speeds achieved. You can find out more about HPDE's at SCDA

Air Filter

We are able to upgrade the stock drop in air filter with a performance one. In this case we suggest the 034 Performance Drop in Air Filter for the MQB platform.
