The Mercedes 722.9 Filter Upgrade Kit FUCHS 001989680310 deserves a little homework before checkout. It’s an upgrade kit, after all not a psychic transmission whisperer. Some negative fitment reviews suggest the item description may have been treated like the terms and conditions: enthusiastically skipped. The instructions say to verify fitment and, if you’re unsure, contact FCP Euro directly with your VIN. A quick compatibility check beats a lengthy keyboard workout afterward. Legitimate complaints about damaged parts or installation issues are fair game. But ordering a 722.9 kit for a different transmission? Unfortunately, even FCP Euro can’t include compatibility in a bottle.

The only place I found the Upgraded Trans pan (deeper) and Filter (3 layers of material) that MB has recommended and put out since Jun 2010 for the GLK 350. Model years 09 to 2016.

Just did this maintenance and upgrade today, quite pleased. The process is very straightforward, though having a lift makes things much easier than with jacks and stands. Read the FCP article and watch the video before doing this. In addition to what comes with the kit, you will need the proper Torx bits and sockets, a fitting to pump fresh ATF through the drain plug hole, and a pump that fits ATF jugs and bottles. In my experience if you don't drain the torque converter (I did not) you will need about 5 1/2 of the 8 qts that come with the kit. After doing this service, I feel shifting is smoother and any faint whine idling in gear at stop lights is reduced. The extra fluid capacity helps everything run a bit cooler and holds any impurities in greater volume. Yes, if you have a vehicle with the earlier 722.9 transmission, this is a great upgrade in my opinion.

FCP - your website Fitment indicates the 722.9 Trans Upgrade Kit fits the '08 SL55 - it does not (I only found this out after ordering the kit and seeing it firsthand). The SL55 has the 722.6 transmission - the pan is a different design and therefore I had to return the kit (other than the bolts and fluid). Buy beware TCP website is not necessarily accurate - double check everything because you will pay return shipping!

The oil plug was very tight, the thread is about to break. They should make a kit with only 5 quarts of oil, which is what you really need, unless you are going to drain all the oil from the system, which is almost impossible because the machine is so expensive. Almost no shop has it, and if you come here to buy this kind of stuff it is because you want to avoid the brand dealer or the shops around there. Another issue, the sump that comes with this kit is deeper, supposedly because the new filter is higher, but when I put the two filters in and measured the distance from the filter to the surface where the sump rests, I got a difference of 1 mm, and the difference between the heights of the sump is 5 to 6 mm. I don't think this sump is justified. Also, the level plug (Overflow plug) is shorter on the new sump to compensate for the difference between the sumps. I think the same sump could have been put in with the new filter. but they need to sell the kit....or not??? The copper washer that comes with the kit is for the original plug, but the plug in this kit is totally different, and because it was so tight and you had to loosen it to fill it with oil, the washer was no longer useful because it was damaged too... anyway, thank goodness I'm a mechanic, otherwise I wouldn't have been able to do the job, another thing, because the plug was so tight and almost damaged the crankcase thread, the fitting to fill the oil could not be put on by hand, it was very hard and I had to put it on with pliers, pure problems my friends. Next time I'll buy what comes and no crappy updates, because in the long run I don't think the improvements will be so obvious in the short and long term

Strongly recommend this kit. Also picked up the pump here which worked well with the pan adapter. Nice to have the best filter on the transmission possible but I would buy an extra quart of fluid. It comes with 8, but after the 8 went in I was hoping for a noticeable bit of overflow before the trickle but I only got the trickle so I don't know if I'm right at the overflow pipe or half an inch below it.

I used this kit to upgrade the transmission pan and filter on my 2008 E63. The process was easy. Just drain and remove the old pan and filter and install these. There are some useful DIY videos on Youtube to help you. There really isn't much in your way, so, the process is not difficult. I did choose to flush the system after filling the pan by disconnecting the return line (at under front bumper location) and running the car to drain two liters at a time (refilling the pan in between). I bought an extra 5 liter jug for this. You'll need a connector to fill the pan from below, and a pump to push the fluid into the pan. I used a 2 gallon HDX sprayer and some 1/4" ID tubing from Home Depot, Plus some 1/2" tubing to connect to the return line. Again, look at Youtube for examples. The adapter and shut off valve is available as a kit on Amazon. This is a great DIY project.

If you have a torque convertor this kit has the right amount of fluid if you don't you will need less. The factory fill on a 2010 E550 was exactly 7L with the convertor. I asked before ordering if this kit was sufficient to do a total refill and was told no, I would need 4 more quarts but that's not the case. 12L is 4L too much. Also the new washer is not compatible with the new pan's drain bolt, the one that comes with it is sufficient...
