This kit was awesome, included eveything and saved me the hassel of finding all the parts.

Seals
Only 1 problem. Considering this is a nearly complete kit for doing the timing both for 2wd and 4wd, its missing the seals for the vanos solenoids on the valve cover. I understand you dont necessarily have to remove them, but most do just to be safe that they dont get damaged. Other than that I appreciate them labeling some of the parts for where they go on the vehicle. And keeping the BMW part numbers with them just in case.

2013 BMW X3 2.8i 91k oil pump chain snapped shut down engine when see low oil pressures period .
This kit saved my N20 after low oil pressure warning chain snapped on oil pump drive , did replacement on this kit and running again main timing chain was loose also multiple plastic guides broken.

Almost Perfect
Very comprehensive kit with ALMOST every part you need to finish the job on an xdrive car, the video guides were crucial for successfully completing the timing chain replacement portion of the project. All parts are high quality OE or OEM and we will see how long the new cassette lasts (hopefully the life of the vehicle). My only gripe, and why I say almost perfect, is that an xdrive vehicle requires draining the front differential, the front differential drain plug seals are single use requiring replacement upon reinstalling. I’d recommend adding them to the kit or picking up a set of drain/fill plugs.

Add to this kit
I got the timing chain kit for my F34 xdrive. It included hub bolts since axles have to come off to drop the sub frame to access the oil pan after removing the front differential. This kit should also include the pinch bolt for the steering linkage to the rack and pinion.

Comprehensive Kit
The kit on its own will aid you replacing the whole timing assembly with ease, however, there are quite a few "while you are there" that you can look at. For example, check your CV boots if they might need replacements in case they are leaking, the belt and its tensioner, oil filter housing gasket and some coolant hoses, control arms, air filter, etc. since you most likely be close to this components while doing it so its better to tackle it once and for all. You will also need fluid for the front differential which is not included. Be prepared, you can remove the front diff without taking out the front subframe by lifting the engine from the transmission by the passenger side or you can get an engine support bar, either way is a big job and safety is very important. A torque wrench is a must and you will need a breaker bar with an extension to break loose the harmonic balancer bolt.

The hub connected to the vibration dampener has a washer on it (11237600595) that is not mentioned in this F30 XDrive kit. BMW says to replace this washer because it is one time use. Are you able to see if this is still required to replace or do we remove it if we install the updated crank sprocket (11317603944)?

After purchasing this, I noticed it does not come with oil pan bolts, which appear to be aluminum. I was under the impression we are generally supposed to replace bolts that are aluminum since they can stretch. Am I wrong? Am I to be under the impression the oil pan bolts are reusable since none are included in the kit? I do see there were 8 drive shaft bolts included.

The bolts are not included as BMW does not require replacement of them on xDrive models. 11137603833 = 16 11137603832 = 4 11137603831 = 5 if desired (assuming F30 xDrive application)

I'm about to place this order for my xDrive28i and want to make sure I have everything I need. I don't see mention of special tools needed, such as the transverse engine support bar, crankshaft removal and installation tool, wiper arm puller, etc. Is there a complete list of those tools (or alternatives) needed for this job? Also, what about consumables like grease, sealant, lubricant? (I have oil and diff fluid in the cart already) You are awesome and I appreciate being able to learn so much about this repair before I pull the trigger to rescue this vehicle!

I have a 2014 328i Xdrive - N20 with 120k miles. I have had my oil pressure warning come on. I do not have any miss fires. Do you guys believe this could be symptom telling me it's time to replace it?

Yes for sure, both are symptoms of timing chain wear, especially at this mileage.

No, it's not necessary. They should only be replaced if there is an existing issue causing VANOS fault codes or if you want to do so preventatively. It is not a requirement, however.
