Brake pad wear sensors are used to monitor the thickness of your vehicle's brake pad friction lining. When the minimum safe thickness is reached the pad wear sensor comes into contact with the brake rotor and opens the circuit which in turn triggers a warning on your instrument cluster notifying you that it is time to service your brakes. Whether or not the pad wear sensor has been triggered it is highly recommended to replace the pad wear sensor when replacing brake pads. They tend to become fragile with age and can easily break when removed from old brake pads causing false warnings after completing the service,
WARNING: Proposition 65 informationDisc Brake Pad Wear Sensors, or Brake Pad Sensor, as they're commonly called, are used as an instrument to alert the driver when the brake pads of the vehicle are at a low level and are in need of replacement. Operation of the sensor is simple where it is wired to the brake control module with 12v and when the brake pad becomes low enough, the sensor will ultimately surface and make contact with the rotor which in turn grounds the sensor and completes the circuit which triggers the light in your instrument cluster. The Brake Pad Wear Sensor is recommended to be replaced at the time of brake pad replacement.

I recently changed my front brake pads and installed this sensor. When I tried to reset the interval on my dash it did not seem to work. I followed all the steps to reset the wear pad sensor but nothing worked. Any advice? Is It possible that this device is effective?

A pad wear sensor is a fairly simple device on most cars. The metal clip that you see in the plastic head of the sensor wears through when the pads get low, and this causes an "open" circuit which the car reads as the pads being low. If the sensor is not damaged and the metal clip is in place, the circuit will be closed, and it's unlikely that the sensor is the problem.

The front pad wear sensor is located on the front left caliper and the rear pad wear sensor is located on the rear right caliper.

There is one sensor on the front left corner and one on the rear right for the applications in question.
