Referred to as a wishbone, a common wear item on high mileage suspensions

This control arm, often referred to as a "lower control arm" has two common failures. The inner bushing which is designed to twist and rotate will tear and fail. This normally causes a shimmy at speed. Also, the ball joint boot rubber will crack and tear which will cause almost immediate failure of the ball joint as water and dust are allowed to enter the joint.

LEM-3048601 does not come with the self locking nut and will need to be purchased separately. The p/n for the self locking nuts is: 31106769443.

Control arms are crucial link in a vehicle's suspension connecting the suspension to a vehicle's subframe. These pieces are usually hinged to allow for suspension to travel and articulate as the vehicle rides over obstructions in the road and while the vehicle turns. Many vehicles such as those with independent suspensions have multiple links and feature several connection points and arms to offer better ride quality and comfort.

As bushings and joints in a control arm begin to wear you may notice a looseness feel in your suspension. And while many arms have replaceable and serviceable individual components, many still require the replacement of the entire arm. Below are signs of when a replacement control arm may be needed:

  • Play in suspension joints where these arms meet the subframe and/or knuckle
  • Buckling noise emanating from the suspension
  • Uneven tire wear
  • Inability to properly align vehicle
  • Shutter or vibration coming from the steering wheel at highway speed
  • Wandering or pulling sensation from side to side felt on the steering wheel

2005 X5 4.8is
I replaced these twice in 4 years, last time was exact 1 year prior. The boots on these don’t last long at all. I’m noticing this with all the lemforder ball joints. They come with little to no grease in the boot and the boot isn’t lasting this was the case for the upper ball joint that faces down as well. Right side is ok for now, but the left side is cracking. The quality is going down.

Didn’t last
Lasted 2.5 years and now the ball joint is loose and causing problems. I would have used the warranty replacement, but I needed something right away as I rely on this car and it seems like a safety issue.

Control arm front lower rear.
perfect fit form and function installed on an 05 M54B30 E53. Tighten Bushing on frame side when car suspension is loaded. Meaning -on the ground not while on jack stands. torque to specs.

Doesn't come with any hardware
These lower control arms are inexpensive compared to the genuine arms but are good quality. Only down side is they do not come with the self locking nuts as pictured. Make sure to order all self locking hardware as well!
