Control arms are a common replacement item on higher mileage BMW's. In many cases the inner bushing can fail causing excessive suspension play, knocking noises, and alignment problems. Additionally, the integrated ball joint can also wear out causing many of the same issues including noises and suspension play.

FCP recommends replacing control arms in matched pairs for the best service life and performance.

Suspension Control Arm and Ball Joint Assembly

Control arms are crucial link in a vehicle's suspension connecting the suspension to a vehicle's subframe. These pieces are usually hinged to allow for suspension to travel and articulate as the vehicle rides over obstructions in the road and while the vehicle turns. Many vehicles such as those with independent suspensions have multiple links and feature several connection points and arms to offer better ride quality and comfort.

As bushings and joints in a control arm begin to wear you may notice a looseness feel in your suspension. And while many arms have replaceable and serviceable individual components, many still require the replacement of the entire arm. Below are signs of when a replacement control arm may be needed:

Low quality boot.
Ball joint boot ripped in around a year. Very low quality rubber. Thankfully lifetime warranty so I’m just going to swap it out.

Failed 13 k lemforder aftermarket arms are a total junk poor quality.

Different but better
For me I noticed right away that they are different than stock but only by thickness of the arm, in a good way these new ones are thicker and with a more square shape where as mine were thinner and shaped like a tube. mine did not come with the "do not tow" sticker but Sai la Vie, I might just draw one or just get a tow driver whom knows what he is doing. I will get the left side to match but it seems like most people don't have the thinner arm style like I do, so you might just check to see if you can buy one or if you need the pair

Same as original part
Same part that BMW used 14 years ago in my E83 X3. Cant tell them apart to include Stamps and markings. Use with confidence. No issues after 12 months and 8,000 miles besides the dealer writing aftermarket parts on my alignment receipt, which is a joke! Excellent quality!
