It's time for a brake service if your BMW's steering wheel shakes while braking or the light is illuminated on your dash indicating your bake pads are too thin. There are numerous critical parts of your BMW's brake system. The two main wear items are the brake pads and the brake rotors. By their very nature they are intended to wear out.

Brake rotors can wear out in several ways. The most common reason for replacing brake rotors is because they are "warped". Warped brake rotors is another way of saying that there are uneven deposits on the rotor surface from the brake pads. This can cause the steering wheel to shimmy while braking. Rotors can be machined to remove the deposits but this is usually counterproductive and it's often safer and easier to just replace the rotors. One brake rotors reach their minimum specified thickness they must be replaced.

Brake pads are the friction material that allow for braking to begin with. They are softer than the brake rotor surface and tend to wear quicker. The brake pad wear sensor attached to the brake rotor will be tripped when the pad becomes too thin and illuminate a light on your dash letting you know that a brake service is required.

Akebono Brake pads and Zimmerman rotors
This complete kit is nice, the pads are made in USA and look of premium quality. The rotors are German made and have a “z coat” which just helps with corrosion . Bedded the brakes and she stops great! I would have to agree that they don’t bite as hard as genuine bmw pads and rotors , I would say about a 10% loss of stopping power, which I’m okay with considering no brake dust yet!

Awesome kit!
Replaced the warped/rusty rotors on my E70 X5 with this set about 6 months ago. High quality parts and well put together kit, even has BMW brake grease. Still stop and look good. Even after a lot of salty roads last winter! Buy with confidence.

Brake kit
Good quality parts. The pads stop well and leave much less dust on the wheels than the stock pads.

They bring you to a halt.
The brakes fit perfect, no complaints at all. They have good feel, others have said not as much initial bite as Oem, I think I agree. Though they do stop well.

'BMW Brake Kit - Brembo/Akebono
This kit works well. In my estimation these brakes are 10-15% less aggressive than genuine BMW rotors and pads, but my wheels are always clean, no brake dust what so ever.

I purchased these pads for my 2011 X5 35i and have been happy with the lower amount of dust. My indy BMW mechanic is telling me these pads are not the right size and are too small causing a clicking noice they were trying to track down for me. Are these pads smaller than OEM/original parts? They looked the same and I didn't notice any differences when I replaced using them originally.

Being honest, I have never heard that before, especially for this application. Looking at the X5 that year I'm seeing d plate number D1294, which is the same for ever variant of this car with the exception of the M models, which pads are for different rotors and calipers and would not mount in your application at all. No differences here, all my applications for D1294 should be accurate and should not cause any kind of noise issues.

This fits 2011-2013 xDrive35i models only as noted in the fitment guide. "Straight six engine" is not descriptive enough because the xDrive35d (diesel equipped model) also uses a straight six engine. If you're unsure of fitment or which model X5 you have please email the last 7 characters of the VIN to service@fcpeuro.com so we can set you up with the correct parts.

There are no fitment exceptions for brake components for the vehicles listed. Regardless of packages they are all the same on the vehicles listed in the application guide.
