Product Information

The steering tie rods are responsible for connecting the steering rack and pinion to the steering knuckle of your vehicle. The inner tie rods are threaded into the steering rack while the outer tie rods connect the inner tie rod to the knuckle. Tie rods will typically have a ball joint incorporated into their design and can wear out from normal use over time as they absorb feedback from the road. These ball joints are typically protected by a rubber boot and if that boot should fail it allows road dirt and debris to enter into the ball joint. A typical telltale sign of a worn tie rod would be play found within the wheel, uneven tire wear, sloppy steering feedback, or all of the above. FCP Euro recommends replacing the inner and outer tie rod ends in pairs with all the needed associated hardware for a complete installation, and to always perform an alignment on the vehicle once the new components are installed.

The tie rods of your vehicle play a critical role as they're the link between the power steering rack and pinion and the wheel spindle. Tie rod ends contain ball joints that tend to wear out over time due to constant wear and tear. When the ball joints within the tie rod wear out, it allows for play within the wheels which can throw off your alignment and cause uneven tire wear. Its always encouraged to check your tie rod ends for play as well as tires for uneven wear at every service interval. When replacing worn tie rod ends its always recommend to replace them in pairs as well as to perform an alignment.
