Product Information

Window motors can burn out over time in several different ways. For one, windows that are rolled up and down frequently can burn out the motor more prematurely due to higher usage vs age. Additionally, window motors can get burned out or damaged by faulty or tightly bound window regulators. If your windows aren't functioning like they used to it could be because of this small motor. When activating the switch, if you don't see any movement or audible noise coming from the motor, it most likely will be a faulty motor, however, we always recommend checking for voltage at the motor as part of a proper diagnosis. If you activate the switch and it appears like the window is getting bound up, it could be a window regulator or weather seal issue.

Window Motor

A window motor is an electric motor inside a vehicle’s door that powers the window regulator, allowing you to raise or lower a power window at the push of a switch.

It works by receiving electrical current from the window switch, which then drives gears that move the regulator arms or cables, moving the glass up or down. Window motors are usually paired with the regulator in a single assembly but can also be replaced separately in some vehicles.

Window Motor Failure Symptoms
  • Window Doesn’t Move at All: No sound or movement when pressing the switch, even though the fuse and wiring are good.
  • Slow or Jerky Window Movement: The motor is losing strength, causing the glass to move sluggishly or unevenly.
  • Intermittent Operation: Works sometimes but not always, often due to worn brushes or internal motor issues.
