Hood Lift Support

Hood lift supports, or gas struts, are pressurized cylinders designed to hold up a car's hood. Over time, they can fail due to a pressure drop, often caused by exposure to extreme temperatures, dust, or contaminants. Cold weather, in particular, can reduce the gas pressure inside the struts, making them less effective at supporting the hood during cooler conditions.

Hood Lift Support Failure Symptoms
  • The hood may feel heavier or fail to stay open as high as before due to a gas leak in the lift support
  • Grease or oil leaking from the existing shocks
  • Seeping noise or creaks coming from the shocks when lifting the hood or trunk
  • Hood or trunk fails to stay open when raised

VW Eurovan Struts
Installed my Stabilus hood struts yesterday on my 2003 VW Eurovan. Easy installation, and the new ones look and work great. Very much looking forward to not having to use a vicegrip to keep the hood open! Thanks FCP!
