Product Information

This offering from Kolbenschmidt is a replacement camshaft for your 1.9 TDI-powered VW. The 1.9 is known for durability and reliability. That said, certain internal components must be changed at some point. At around 200,000 miles, you tend to see the camshaft and its journals begin to fail. If you're rebuilding/refreshing a 1.9 TDI, it's a great idea to throw a new camshaft in there while the engine is open to further prolong the life of the motor.

Engine Camshaft

An engine camshaft is a rotating shaft inside an engine that controls the opening and closing of the intake and exhaust valves.

It has precisely shaped lobes (cams) that push on valve lifters, rocker arms, or cam followers, which in turn open the valves at specific times in the engine’s cycle. The camshaft’s timing is synchronized with the crankshaft via a timing belt, chain, or gears to ensure valves open and close in coordination with piston movement.

Engine Camshaft Failure Symptoms
  • Tapping, Ticking, or Popping Noises from the Engine: Worn lobes or damaged lifters can cause irregular valve operation.
  • Poor Engine Performance / Power Loss: Incorrect valve timing or worn lobes reduces airflow and combustion efficiency.
  • Misfires or Rough Idle: Valves may not open/close correctly, causing incomplete combustion.

About Kolbenschmidt

The KS Kolbenschmidt division develops, produces and markets gasoline and diesel engine pistons for cars and commercial vehicles and is among the foremost players in its segment. Other products include pistons for two-cycle and compressor engines as well as large pistons for stationary, marine and locomotive engines.

Upgrading power density as well as achieving further reductions in fuel consumption and emissions have for years now been the factors driving the development of new types of pistons at KS Kolbenschmidt.

Neckarsulm-based KS Kolbenschmidt GmbH, an international company, harnesses to maximum effect the synergies among its various units: large-bore, commercial vehicle and car pistons. Available for this purpose is the experience derived from local development departments and the development centers and production facilities in Europe, North and South America and Asia.

For years now, many notable OEMs have been regular customers of this division. The chief markets are Europe, North and South America, and Asia.
