Product Information

Control arms are notorious for wearing out over time and mileage due to the nature of their design. The typical component that wears out is the rubber bushing that absorbs all of the vibration and movement found within the control when in use. Another critical component to inspect is the control arm ball joint which can also become worn and develop play within the suspension control arm. It's important to check your control arms for wear any time you are servicing the vehicle. Worn control arms will lead to loose steering, clunking noise over bumps, uneven tire wear, vibration while driving, and increased stopping distances. Check the rubber bushings for cracking, stretching, and oxidation and the ball joint for looseness and excessive play. If the ball joint boot is torn it will allow dirt to contaminate the joint and grease leading to premature wear and binding. This kit includes everything you'll need for a complete installation.

Suspension Control Arm Kit

Control arms are crucial link in a vehicle's suspension connecting the suspension to a vehicle's subframe. These pieces are usually hinged to allow for suspension to travel and articulate as the vehicle rides over obstructions in the road and while the vehicle turns. Doesn't include everything in picture
Be aware this does not include one of the rear control arms in the picture. The part number not included (but in the photo) is 5QM505311. Ironically, this is the most expensive part for the rear suspension and I could not find only the bushing anywhere. This is partially on me for not checking, but I'm disappointed with the false advertising in the photo. FCPEuro does have a much cheaper Febi version (Febi 172743), but the lead time (2-3 weeks) was too long by the time I realized this was not included in my order. I had to order a Delphi part from RockAuto. ECS has a Vaico kit as well, but it is special order. Be aware that by the time you add this control arm and the nuts and bolts, you're looking at another $200-300 on top of this kit. I was able to find the nuts and bolts on parts.vw.com. Lastly, don't forget to order the rear sway bar linkage if you're doing a whole rear refresh. Overall, we'll see how the kit and my Delphi part hold up.
