Transmission Clutch Kit

Clutch kits are made up of two main components, the clutch friction disc and the clutch pressure plate. Both of these components transfer torque from the flywheel to the transmission. There are several different types of manual transmission clutches in terms of operation but they all perform the same basic function.

Clutches are a pure wear item. In some cases you may have the option to replace a pressure plate or clutch disc separately but its always best to replace both at the same time along with other component such as the rear main seal, pilot bearing, release bearing, and shifter parts.

Transmission Clutch Kit Failure Symptoms
  • Slipping under acceleration
  • Engine revs freely but the vehicle does not accelerate
  • Difficulty shifting gears
  • Squeaking noises while the clutch pedal is pressed
  • Sticky or spongy clutch pedal feel when the clutch pedal is pressed

Perfect Fit
Was a little hesitant on ordering this kit for my MK7.5 Golf R. Emailed FCP and they assured me it would fit. Ordered the SACHS TO Bearing at the same time. Both fit perfectly without any issues. The clutch pedal is definitely harder. Dont skip leg day after installing this clutch. Go ahead and take out the restrictor pill in the bleeder block while you have everything apart. The clutch does chatter a bit but I knew that going into it. Not much you can do about that with a solid unsprung 4 puck disc. If you are not a fan of chatter, get another clutch. So far it has held up fine but still need to finish breaking it in.

can this be used with a single mass flywheel

While these should be able to be used on a SMF, they will be rowdy considering the clutch is not sprung. This is recommended for use on a factory flywheel.

With this kit will I need to have my own flywheel? If the car is relatively new can an OEM flywheel be used?
