A Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor is an essential component in a vehicle's engine management system. It measures the pressure inside the intake manifold, providing data to the engine control unit (ECU) to help calculate air density and determine the correct air-fuel mixture. This information is critical for optimal engine performance, fuel efficiency, and emissions control.
Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor Failure Symptoms- Check Engine Light: A malfunctioning MAP sensor often triggers the check engine light, indicating a potential issue with the engine management system
- Poor Engine Performance: If the MAP sensor fails, it can lead to reduced engine power, sluggish acceleration, or hesitation during driving due to an incorrect air-fuel mixture
- Rough Idle: A faulty MAP sensor may cause the engine to idle roughly or inconsistently, often leading to stalling or difficulty starting the engine
