  • The Genuine Volvo units are side specific due to the blue water resistance cover shown in the photo. This was a updated part design by Volvo that was introduced in later years.
  • You will also need to replace the wheel hub bolts, part number 982844 (4 required).

The primary purpose of your wheel hub is to secure your wheel to the chassis of your vehicle while allowing it to rotate freely. If you've noticed that your steering is wandering, or you can hear grinding noises as you drive, it may be related to a faulty wheel hub, which is a safety hazard and must be addressed immediately.

Wheel Bearing and Hub Assembly

Typically a wheel bearing is a set of steel balls within a metal ring, which is called a race. At the center of your wheels, there is a hollow piece of metal, called a hub. The wheel bearings resides inside the hub and helps to reduce friction when the wheel spins.

What is the part number of that white tube in the photo? And what is the substance in that tube? That tube was missing from the box I received but it did contain the two plastic rings the larger being 31329409 and the smaller being 31340664. I noticed there was a cut out hand grip slot on the box where the tube could possibly have fell out during transit. What was also in the box was a caution printout of a diagram of the engine side of the hub with smear of neon blue grease or sealant or something outlining the ring around the axel splines. There was a cartoon of a tube squeezing out a squiggle of material pointing to the blue sealant and a notation 3-4mm diameter. The part number of this diagram printout is 31201012. I expected that tube to be in the packaging not a separate product to purchase, did Volvo change the kit?

I would recommend contacting customer service at service@fcperuo.com as it sounds like the grease is missing - they will be able to further help. As far as the individual item goes, this appears to be a brake grease according to the Volvo catalog but it does not offer an individual part number.

What is the role of those two black pieces in the photo, that black ring and the larger black ring with the side tabs? What is each one for and where does it install in the assembly?

This is a water resistance cover. This was a updated part design by Volvo that was introduced in later years to resolve corrosion issues. You are welcome to email service@fcpeuro.com and we can provide additional documentation on the repair procedure using these items.

It's recommended to, yes. You must use a high temperature bearing grease.
