Volvo Brake Pedal Position Sensor - ATE 31687032

My S80 was giving me a error on the dash about a brake issue, it wasn't causing any problems from what I could tell but the light was annoying so I bought this part. Works fine, but pricey.

Fit my 2002 S60, although it is different to the original part it replaced. The sensor on my car had the electrical connector sticking out the end of the sensor, whereas this part has it on the side. I had to twist the wires 180 degrees to get the plug to line up, but it doesn't seem like it put extra strain on the wires. If your car has the straight connector, you can still get that part (Ate 9441116), and it is actually slightly cheaper.

My Cruise control wasn't Working and I was intermittently getting the "System Service Required" message on the dash. I found that this sensor was a likely culprit and decided to replace it. Yes, its probably a bit pricy but it worked! I now have no message on the dash and even better, Cruise Control works again. One tip for install: Make sure to apply a lubricant to the O-Ring. I used Sil-Glide Silicone Grease after struggling with getting the sensor to lock in. Once I applied the grease too the rubber o-ring, it went in and the clip ring locked.

I couldn't get the included retaining ring to fit securely enough to hold the sensor in, but ended up reusing the original!!!!!!

Installed in about 30 mins total. Took about 3 drive cycles for the car to realize the signal from the sensor is now plausible, so that's good. Definitely don't lose/forget to remove the old o-ring during removal. And just make sure the snap ring has some slack on it when installing the new one and it wont be hard to seat properly. Just make sure its locked in place and cant be removed by hand. The cars' initial vacuum when starting, should create the rest of the seal if done correctly. (Sucks it tight towards the booster)

This definitely solved my brake service required warning and cruise control not working. One note, Volvo did change the part so it doesn't look exactly like the part I had before, but fits fine. While this was a pretty easy install, I had a similar problem another Volvohead had -- where I couldn't get the sensor all the way. Even though I cleaned everything, it turns out I had to really clean every bit of dirt inside, particularly in the notch in order to the get the sensor in. Once everything was clean, it slide right in!

My 06 xc70 had codes BCM-0147 and BCM-0103 and my cruise control would sometimes work during a drive cycle if I didn't turn the car off but then sometimes after turning the car off and restarting it the cruise would no longer work. Replaced this and it fixed cruise control intermittently working. It's extremely easy to install, the video and a few reviews makes it seem more difficult than it is, takes 5 minutes. Just use a pick on the metal C clip and hook it under near the end of the clip and pull it forward toward the engine out of the groove then just walk it off with the pick, pull sensor out and fish the O ring out from inside the hole. Installing just simply reverse what you did with the C clip, DON'T PUT THE CLIP ON THE SENSOR FIRST, put it on the brake booster, install the bottom tip of it into its groove and just walk the clip back onto the brake booster with your finger until it's seated, lube the O ring with silicone and push the sensor back in and it snaps right into the clip, not much force needed with the O ring lubed, done.

Works great! Got my cruise control functioning before I took off on a 2hr drive. You may have a different experience but I wasn't able to remove the old circlip from the end of the booster and didn't want to damage anything by yanking on it so I pushed it towards the driver's fender, popped the new sensor w. o-ring in, and swung the clip back over it.
