Product Information

  • If the two locating pins come out attached to the old alternator, remove them and install on the new alternator for proper coupling alignment
  • The intake manifold must be removed to change this alternator. New intake manifold gaskets are included
  • Also included is a new alternator coupler, and coupling pulley bolt with threadlocker. Even if this bolt is not loose, this bolt should be replaced with fresh threadlocker added. The bolt from the engine to the alternator coupler is a common failure point, and when it loosens it will release drive to the alternator and stop charging.

XC70 3.2 alternator
Great kit from FCP. The job looks more daunting than it really is, plenty of YT videos to help out. I did make a tool by cutting a bolt to ease the installation. The products from FCP were of great quality and here have been no issues.

Broken alternator
The alternator comes poorly packaged inside the carton, causing a plastic connector housing to break off. I had the alternator shipped to my home and didnt realize the plastic connector was broken off until my mechanic had already removed the old alternator. At that point, my mechanic said he could either super glue the plastic part back on or reassemble my car with the old alternator and charge me labor twice after I bring him another alternator. I went to the counter at FCP and asked the person behind the counter why they would ship a heavy alternator so poorly packaged, rolling around loose inside the primary package. He said thats the way they all come from Bosch and it's not unusual for the plastic part to break off during shipping. He blamed me for not checking the part as soon as it arrived. That's the kind of attitude that makes customers go somewhere else. At this point, I am driving around with the "new" alternator and the plastic part glued on by my mechanic, praying and hoping that it doesnt break off and leave me stranded on the side of the road. Very disappointing.

'13 XC60
Alternator went bad because coupling pulley bolt was loose. Had slight play in the old one. Kit came with everything you need at a great price. Better than AutoZone. Those intake gaskets are not cheap but good price on FCP. All you need is 3 drops of threadlocker on the pully bolt, then wait till it cures. Screw on by hand but you need an impact to get it on tight. Runs like new. Old alternator killed the battery so had to replace that too. About 2-3 hour job for the DIYer.

'12 XC60 Alternator
Love/hate my XC60. Working thru a non-start issue lately. Landed on alternator as 'more than likely' candidate. FCP Euro package was a good price, OEM quality and had all the bits - new bolts, intake gaskets, thread lock - to do a thorough job. Install was easy. Took maybe 2 hours for this broken old man to do it. Shipping the core back isn't cheap but that's my problem. Gotten a lot from FCP Euro as they are vastly cheaper than the local Volvo shop and provide OEM quality (or better). Not disappointed yet. Now if they could only take 30-40K miles off my ride.

The kit is provided as shown in the images. The coupling does not appear to be installed.
