  • The intake manifold must be removed to change this alternator. New intake manifold gaskets 30650729 (x6) are recommended to also be replaced at this time.

  • If the two locating pins come out attached to the old alternator, remove them and install on the new alternator for proper coupling alignment
  • Be sure to check the pulley and bolt attached to the other side of the rubber coupling, as it's a common failure point. The part numbers for the coupling pulley gear is 30750136 and the bolt is 982817 .
Alternator

If your car is running out of power (literally) it's likely due to a worn or failing alternator. Your vehicles car battery is responsible for storing enough energy to start the car while the alternator powers all the vehicles systems with the engine running while maintaining a battery charge. If your car dies while driving and the battery has little to no charge it's most likely due to a failed or failing alternator. Before condemning an alternator you can perform a simple test with a DVOM (digital volt meter). Also make sure the belt which drives the alternator is properly tensioned as well.

  • Battery drains while car is running
  • Low voltage generated while car is running
  • Dim or flickering headlights
  • Dim or flickering interior lights
  • Electrical systems such as the radio, power windows, sunroof do not function

Alternator For 2012 Volvo XC70 T6
Excellent part without the extra step of having remove the gear off the original part. Went in perfectly. No issues. Have been running with it in the car now for 3 months.

Saved $1700 from dealer and $900 from private Volvo shop
I have a 2012 Volvo XC60 3.2, it took the 180A alt that has a direct drive coupler. It was harder and took longer to remove the air intake manifold than it was to replace the alternator. In all, I was done in 90 minutes even with clean up and tools put away. I also took a lot of extra special care and time with the electrical connectors on the intake manifold that had to come out to get to the alternator. Do not rush this job to get stuff apart, there are 4 electrical and 2 EVAP connectors on the intake manifold alone. Take your time. If I had to do this again in 5 years, it'd be a 40 minute job. Watch the You Tube video of the guy changing the alternator in his XC 90 3.2 L. Its the same engine as the 3.2L in the XC 60. Get the intake gaskets, the cheap ones are just like the Volvo ones that came off my car - exactly like OE. So don't waste your money on the Genuine Volvo ones (Dealer wanted $53 a piece - LOL) - there is no discernable difference at all. Lastly, on the bottom two bolt holes on the alternator, there are these two little hollow copper pins, those will be in your old alternator - you need these! You have to get these out very carefully with some pliers - (CAREFULLY THEY ARE COPPER) - then you put those back in the bottom holes of the new alternator - about 1/2 way. These copper sleeves align into two countersunk holes on the block and align the alt to the coupler. If you do not add these to the new alt, the direct drive coupler won't be properly aligned. Lord knows what that'll mess up if this isn't aligned. If you've got a Volvo, and have this coupler type alternator, save yourself a ton of money and DIY.
