HVAC Heater Core

The HVAC heater core is a small radiator-like component located within the vehicle's HVAC (Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning) system. It transfers heat from the engine coolant into the cabin, warming the air that passes through the HVAC system and providing heat to the vehicle’s interior. As hot coolant flows through the heater core, the blower motor pushes air over it, and the heated air is then directed into the cabin.

HVAC Heater Core Failure Symptoms
  • Weak or No Heat in the Cabin: If the heater core is partially or fully clogged, the warm air may not reach the cabin effectively, resulting in weak or no heat even when the heater is turned on high
  • Sweet or Musty Smell in the Cabin: The heater core contains engine coolant, which has a distinctive sweet smell. If there’s a leak, you may notice this odor inside the car. Over time, this smell can become musty as the leaking coolant sits in the ventilation system
  • Fogged-Up Windows: A leaking heater core can allow coolant to enter the HVAC system, which then evaporates onto the windshield, causing a foggy or hazy layer on the inside of the windows. This fog is often sticky and hard to wipe away.

heater core review
Good product, now I have reliable heat!! It did leave a slight funky smell for a few months, but not terrible. Would purchase again! Been in use 5 years now.

Exact fit over OEM
Exact fit over OEM, heat now blows HOT. Recommend saving the money spent on more expensive options and buying this one instead.

Heater Core
Replaced a busted heater core. The fins felt a bit cheap on this one, however it fit just like OEM with no issues. Heats up the cabin nicely. A bear to install but that's not the heater core's fault. 3k miles and running strong!

Heater Core by Nissens
Can you say Hades? My new heater core blows Hades hot!! I asked around and it appears that Nissens provides VW with some (maybe not all) of their radiators. If it's good enough for VW its's good enough for me. Turns out, my car hasnt been this warm and toasty in some time! I recommend this product. It wasnt the easiest part to replace but it certainly isnt impossible, and DIYer can replace this part with patience. Look through YouTube at the different how to's and decide whice one might best work for you. The part works and you can do it yourself.

This heater core is made well. Still working well.
