Socket

Tool sockets are essential for a do-it-yourselfer as they allow fast, efficient, and precise tightening or loosening of fasteners, especially in tight or hard-to-reach spaces. They provide better leverage when used with ratchets or impact tools, reduce the risk of rounding off bolt heads, and come in a variety of sizes and drive types to fit different vehicles and applications.

Socket Failure Symptoms
  • Rounding or stripping of the internal drive – The inside corners become worn, causing the socket to slip on fasteners.
  • Cracks or splits in the socket wall – Often from over-torquing or impact stress, making the socket unsafe to use.
  • Loss of grip on the drive tool – The square drive opening wears out or distorts, leading to a loose fit on the ratchet or impact wrench.

About Lisle

Founded in 1903, C.A. Lisle started the company with the first product being horse-powered water well drilling machines. On the off season to the well drilling business, they manufactured washing machines, cream separators, and push-type reel lawn mowers. In the mid-20s, Lisle Corporation made its first automotive product, a master ignition vibrator for Ford Model T vehicles. The first Lisle tool, a valve refacer, fast became a repair shop must since valves were reground every 20,000 miles at that time. In the 1930's they also manufactured magnetic oil drain plugs that were used in WWII for military equipment resulting in the Army/Navy E Award for manufacturing excellence in supporting the war effort. In the 1950's after the war, the automotive aftermarket boomed and demand for specialty automotive tools increased. It was then that the Lisle Corporation made the decision to grow the company by introducing new tools that could be made in the company's own factory, thereby controlling quality, delivery and costs. Today the company's tool line consists of more than 400 products of which most are produced at the original location, now expanded, in Clarinda, Iowa.

T60 Torx Socket - Lisle 26520?
Great quality. I am sure it would last. However, for taking the tension off my BMW E90 N54's serpentine belt, this doesn't work. Its too big.

Works for serpentine belt
This socket works to release the new serpentine belt tensioner on my 2000 V70. Be sure to get a thin bar with 1/2" drive head on it because a regular socket wrench or breaker bar is too thick to fit. Lisle and others offer this "serpentine belt tool".

Solid Tool
Probably too large to use for slackening the serpentine belt pulley with a common 1/2" drive tool, but definitely seems to be a sturdy socket, nonetheless.
