Product Information

Excellent solution for any bolt that threads into a water jacket, such as water pumps, replaces the need to buy new bolts with sealant pre-installed as required in many OE applications.

Outperforms tapes and pipe dopes. Seals and resists pressure in air, oil, diesel fuel, coolant/antifreeze, and hydraulic /power steering systems. Remains pliable at higher and lower temperatures. Temperature range -65°F to 300°F (-54°C to 149°C); resists common shop fluids. Not for use with gasoline.

About Permatex

Permatex was founded in 1909 by Constant A. Benoit Sr. when he developed the first Permatex product which was a shellac designed to bond bicycle tires to their rims. Shortly after that in 1915, Constant attended a 24 hour endurance race in which he observed that very frequently drivers were having to return to the pit area due to blown headgaskets. Quickly Benoit saw an opportunity to apply some of his experimental gasket compound to a vehicle in which it then ran the rest of the 24 hour race without any issues! The rest is history. Today the company is partnered with ITW (Illinois Tool Company) and has recently celebrated their 100 year anniversary in 2009. Sealed my water pump bolts!
My new water pump did not come with new bolts that have the thread sealant pre-applied, so FCP Euro was good to recommend adding this to my purchase. I cleaned the bolts, applied this thread sealant and installed the bolts. So far, so good!

For a water pump repair on a Volvo can I substitute this thread sealant with Permatex High-Temp Red RTV Silicone Gasket Maker? The later I have in hand already.
