Product Information

Turbocharger

Turbochargers are commonly used on many modern cars as they allow smaller displacement engines to make the same power as higher displacement engines. In addition, turbocharged engines tend to be more fuel efficient relative to the power that they output. Turbochargers are relatively simple mechanical devices. They use exhaust gas to pressurize the intake air. With more air volume entering the engine it is possible to add more fuel which in turn allows for more power as well as efficiency.

Turbochargers are generally cooled by engine coolant and lubricated by engine oil. So it's not uncommon to see two feed lines going to the turbocharger and two return lines coming from the turbo. Over time turbochargers like all parts wear out. Smoke coming out of the exhaust can indicate that seals in the turbo have gone bad and oil is entering the exhaust. Really worn turbos also don't build boost effectively. If you suspect your turbocharger is worn or on its way top catastrophic failure it is advised to replace it before further engine damage can occur.

Turbocharger Failure Symptoms
  • Oil leaks
  • Smoking exhaust
  • Low boost pressure
  • Limp model
  • High oil consumption
  • Play in turbine shaft due to worn bearing

2017 Macan 2.0 Wastegate Failure
This fixed the apparent 2.0 turbo wastegate problem. The wastegate looks a bit beefier, so hopefully the problem is fixed for the long term.

Turbo Wastegate Failure
I installed this on my Macan 2.0 after diagnosing a failed wastegate. This appears to be a common flaw on the 2.0 engine. The new turbo looks to have a redesigned wastegate as well. It works great, hopefully for a long time to come.

Fitment / Boost pressure regulator
Installed this on a 2017 Porsche Macan, had faults for boost control and stuck actuator upon install, had to source the correct boost pressure regulator. Keep in mind that some of these may have a different boost pressure valve installed on them than what this replacement comes with and the number / info is ground off so you may have to source an OE control valve or swap it over from the old turbo. The wastegate on this worked great which was the reason for replacing the turbo assembly.

2017 Macan 2.0 Turbo - P2563 Position for boost pressure adjuster - implausible signal
Got the P2563 code at approx. 70k miles. Tried changing the sensor on the charge pipe but the error persisted with a new sensor installed. Was shocked to find that the entire turbo had to be replaced due to excessive play in the wastegate hinge (part of the turbo housing, can't be replaced alone). Installing a new wastegate actuator may have worked for a while but I want the problem solved for good so I opted to replace the entire turbo, coolant/oil lines and exhaust gasket. Turbo drop shipped from FCP's vendor super fast but the feed/return lines took forever to arrive. No more codes and noticeably more power and sweet turbo sounds. Thank you FCPEuro!
