Product Information

The high pressure fuel pump provides fuel for the fuel injectors and is located on the engine and is driven by the camshaft. When this fuel pump fails it will affect engine performce and will likely illuminate the check engine light for a lean or rich air/fuel mixture and maybe a cylinder misfire as well. Our High Pressure Fuel Pump Kit includes the high pressure fuel pump, fuel pump hose, and camshaft plug. The fuel hose is included as preventative maintenance as it can often be overlooked. If the hose shows wear or the fittings are corroded this is a perfect time to replace the fuel hose. We also include the camshaft plug in our kit as this commonly breaks during fuel pump removal since it's made of plastic and will become brittle over time and through the heat cycles it experiences.

Direct Injection High Pressure Fuel Pump

A direct injection high pressure fuel pump (HPFP) is a critical component in modern gasoline direct injection (GDI) engines. Unlike traditional fuel pumps, it boosts fuel pressure to extremely high levels (often over 2,000 psi) so fuel can be directly injected into the combustion chamber. This enables better fuel atomization, improved efficiency, and higher power output. The HPFP is typically driven by the camshaft and works in tandem with a low-pressure fuel pump. Over time, wear, contamination, or internal failure can lead to drivability issues.

  • Engine performance problems – hard starting, hesitation, misfires, or loss of power under load.
  • Fuel-related issues – check engine light, lean/rich codes, or reduced fuel economy.
  • Noises or leaks – ticking/whining sounds from the pump or visible fuel leakage at the pump area.
