Product Information

OPTIMUM BLACK combines maximum oil resistance with maximum flexibility. Today, we see components changing and unlike materials meeting (plastic/steel, aluminum/steel, etc.), all with different rates of expansion and contraction. In addition, with technology advancing, regulations and requirements tightening, we see thinner metals, fewer fasteners, and wider spread bolt patterns. The strength and flexibility of OPTIMUM BLACK handle the changes and added stresses that exist between today’s lightweight, high performance, and premium component assemblies. OPTIMUM BLACK is sensor safe, low odor, and non-corrosive with resistance to oil, shop fluids, and vibration. It is one of the most advanced, maximum flex, maximum oil resistant RTV silicone gasket makers available.

Maximum Flexibility: assemblies where dissimilar metals meet Maximum Oil Resistance High Temperature performance up to 500°F Sensor-Safe, Low Odor, Non-Corrosive

About Permatex

Permatex was founded in 1909 by Constant A. Benoit Sr. when he developed the first Permatex product which was a shellac designed to bond bicycle tires to their rims. Shortly after that in 1915, Constant attended a 24 hour endurance race in which he observed that very frequently drivers were having to return to the pit area due to blown headgaskets. Quickly Benoit saw an opportunity to apply some of his experimental gasket compound to a vehicle in which it then ran the rest of the 24 hour race without any issues! The rest is history. Today the company is partnered with ITW (Illinois Tool Company) and has recently celebrated their 100 year anniversary in 2009. The company is known for excellence with over 350 products, and produces nearly 1,200 SKUs in several markets to include automotive, marine, heavy duty, and off highway.
