The engine oil drain plug is a small port located at the bottom of the oil pan. Its primary purpose is to seal the oil pan and allow for easy draining of the engine oil during oil changes. The plug is typically made of metal steel or aluminum, but sometimes plastic, and includes a rubber or metal gasket to prevent oil from leaking out. The drain plug is removed during oil changes to allow the old oil to flow out of the engine, and it is then replaced after the oil pan is emptied.

• Oil Leaks: The most common symptom of a failing or damaged oil drain plug is an oil leak. If the plug or its gasket is worn, cracked, or improperly tightened, oil may leak from the oil pan. This can lead to oil puddles under the vehicle or visible oil residue around the drain plug area.
