Product Information

Automatic Transmission Mount

A transmission mount is a crucial component in a vehicle that secures the transmission to the vehicle’s chassis. It typically consists of a metal frame with rubber or polyurethane insulation. Its main function is to hold the transmission in place, reduce vibrations, and prevent excessive movement during operation. The rubber or polyurethane part helps absorb vibrations and shocks from the engine and road, improving ride quality and protecting the transmission.

Automatic Transmission Mount Failure Symptoms
  • Clunking or Banging Noises: When the transmission mount is damaged, you may hear clunking or banging sounds during gear changes or when accelerating/decelerating.
  • Excessive Vibrations: One of the primary signs of a failing transmission mount is increased vibrations or rattling, especially when the vehicle is idling or during acceleration. As the mount loses its ability to absorb shocks, vibrations can be felt inside the cabin.
  • Engine Misalignment: As the transmission mount also plays a role in maintaining proper alignment between the engine and transmission, a broken mount can cause misalignment issues, especially in front wheel drive configurations.

Solved my harsh shifting
My C300 has been shifting incredibly rough for the past 25k miles or so, especially once I hit 75k miles. I tried to hold on for as long as I could honestly due to my own ignorance, but once I got to 90k, the transmission became unbearable. The replacement didn't take longer than 15 minutes to do and it made a world of difference. For $70, this part is definitely another thing to add to your higher-mileage service to-do list. I'll probably replace it again at 125k and 175k (if I manage to get there).

Easy, worthwhile replacement
2015 W205 C300 that had some occasional 'lurching' when shifting gears or when going back on the power as well as some rhythmic vibrational humming at highway speeds. Suspected the transmission mount since the car is 8 years old (but only 35k miles) as age is a factor with the rubber bushing. Long story short, spent about 30 minutes doing the easy swap and lo and behold the transmission now feels more 'tight' or smooth and the lurching is eliminated as is the humming at 70+ mph. Come to think of it, I also haven't noticed any more hard slamming into gear (e.g. from R to D) that would occasionally happen. Tranny mount is way cheaper and easier than the motor mounts, so if you have any issues as described here, start with the tranny mount.
