I chose the best quality fluid from an OE supplier and packaged it with the correct filter and hardware. Take the kit to your independant service specialist or do it yourself on a Saturday afternoon. It’s all there and it’s all quality.

The Mercedes 722.9 transmission or 7GTronic Mercedes transmission was used from 2004 to the present day. This transmission is found in various models, is an electronically controlled transmission and most common failures are electronic on these models. Good practice is to change the fluid level every 40k miles, and periodically check for leaks. This transmission is not equipped with a dipstick and requires a special service tool to change the fluid. When properly maintained, the transmission should last the life of the vehicle.

Transmission Service Kit

The transmission oil filter prevents harmful particulate matter from entering the transmission valve body and damaging valve body bores, solenoids, and other fluid passages. Foreign particles in valve body bores, solenoids, or passages will cause shifting issues. Some of these issues include delayed shifts, harsh shifts, or no gear engagement in extreme cases. Clogged filters can reduce fluid volume and flow in the transmission causing starvation of the transmission pump. This can be identified by an RPM-dependent whine from the transmission bell housing area. The transmission oil filter should be changed during any fluid service, and it is critical to replace the filter if major transmission components are replaced such as the torque converter, transmission pump, or transmission valve body.

Pan Gasket causing leak
Gasket is cheap, pan has a slow leak. I will claim replacement but will use OEM gasket.

Fine Kit, Horrible Gasket Experience
It may be a one off, but my gasket arrived looking like someone stretched it flat, held one end, and then put the other end on a power drill. It was not damaged but it was hopelessly twisted so no matter what it wouldn't sit even close flat on the pan, even with the little nipples that clip it down. It made the job incredibly frustrating as I tried to support the pan with one hand, hold the gasket down in 3 places with the other hand and then tighten the first bolts with my third hand. After much trial and error I thought I had it perfect but once I filled it the pointy part at the front of the pan, hard to observe because it's hidden by the subframe, was leaking from the gasket not being secure. I understand with the right tools, maybe like a jack to hold the pan, and a helper I could have avoided this but like it's not supposed to be that difficult. Now I'm in for all the wasted fluid, the torque to yield bolts etc. When I have gotten other gasket they shit flat with a cardboard backing or at least aren't twisted 1080 degrees around themselves. I should have returned it but it was an urgent repair. Lots of lessons learned so can't complain too much.

Gets the job done
I only needed 6 Liters, Filter is made in China, and the drain plug that came with it was wrong size (too small) for my 2006 MB SLK55 AMG. DO NOT OVERTIGHTEN the bolts they will snap!

Cheap Bolts, More ATF than needed (Maybe)
First, this is mostly for FCP, you need to upgrade your fastener supplier. Two of the replacements bolts supplied with the kit failed at about half the recommended torque setting. Getting the stubs out of the transmission added an hour to the job. Second, for buyers, check to see if your torque converter has a drain plug. Mine did not. If yours doesn't, you don't need the extra two quarts of ATF.

Gasket gave me issues
The gasket is all folded up and wouldn’t sit flat on the oil pan. Had to tighten it in place and loosen and maneuver the gasket a couple times to get it to seat appropriately. I only used 5L of the pentosin fluid to do the change, first filling cold, then filling at operating temperature. I wonder if the Mercedes brand gasket would have been less problematic.

2009 Mercedes C350 722.9 Transmission 131K Mile Service
My car had 131K miles on it with the factory fluid. I never changed it because Mercedes said it was a "Sealed" transmission. The car developed a vibration that go more and more aggressive over time. I was skeptical that I could fix this with a transmission service but I figured I would try it anyway. The oil that came out was black and brown, it was done. I used this kit, replaced the filter, gasket, crush washer. Cleaned up the pan and magnets when I removed them from the car. I also replaced the torque converter fluid as well. This job did the trick. The car runs like brand new now. NOTE: Roughly I replaced between 8-9 liters in this whole job. I feel like there was still 1 liter or so still in the transmission in total. If doing the Torque Converter as well, buy a second 5 Liter jug of fluid. The 7 Liters that comes in this kit will not be enough. Also, this fluid color is red. What I researched it is roughly good for 40K miles. I am not sure if there is a blue alternative that will last 70K miles between services other than buying directly from Mercedes.

full transmission service kit
car started to slip really hard once it reached operating temperature, drove me crazy i started to think the worst maybe was a converter going out car would start slipping gears 1-3 got a code p0984, ended up doing it myself ordered the fill adapter thru amazon and the full-service kit thru fcp quick reliable shipping came sooner than expected, serviced Transmisson hoped for the best and luckily car has been shifting perfect better than before just shows you how important it is to change the oil .

Watch out for trans pan leak cuz of warped pan. Gasket design also sucks. I used additional RTV to help with leak.

Per Mercedes Benz WIS ATF Replacement procedure, this transmission requires draining the torque converter which would then require a total of 9 Liters of ATF. To only drain 6 liters means that before as the car is off the jackstands, ATF is dirty again!
