Product Information

M20x1.5, magnetic drain plug

Mishimoto has just released magnetic oil drain plugs for your sport compact vehicle. The Mishimoto drain plug, constructed out of 6061 aluminum at varying thread pitches, is the perfect replacement for your OEM plug. Made with a neodymium magnet, the Mishimoto Magnetic Oil Drain Plug holds on to the metal debris that your oil filter might miss that could ruin your engine, protecting it longer than any other oil plug on the market.

Upgrade to a Mishimoto Magnetic Oil Drain Plug today and reduce the amount of metal debris in your engine, giving it a longer life. Each Mishimoto Magnetic Oil Drain Plug comes with a Dowty oil seal to prevent leaks.

Note: Before ordering, please determine bolt head size and thread pitch on your stock drain plug. Improperly sized drain plugs can strip/damage the oil pan or leaks can occur if the plug is too small.

Engine Oil Drain Plug

The engine oil drain plug is a small port located at the bottom of the oil pan. Its primary purpose is to seal the oil pan and allow for easy draining of the engine oil during oil changes. The plug is typically made of metal steel or aluminum, but sometimes plastic, and includes a rubber or metal gasket to prevent oil from leaking out. The drain plug is removed during oil changes to allow the old oil to flow out of the engine, and it is then replaced after the oil pan is emptied.

Engine Oil Drain Plug Failure Symptoms
  • Oil Leaks: The most common symptom of a failing or damaged oil drain plug is an oil leak. If the plug or its gasket is worn, cracked, or improperly tightened, oil may leak from the oil pan. This can lead to oil puddles under the vehicle or visible oil residue around the drain plug area.
  • Stripped Threads: Over time, the threads on the oil drain plug or in the oil pan may become stripped due to overtightening or improper installation. This can prevent the plug from sealing properly, leading to oil leaks or difficulty securing the plug during oil changes.

Great plug but...
I bought this for my 08 wrx build and don't get me wrong I'm sure it's a quality product but this plug will not work with a newer style (08+) Subaru because the oil pan has a weird new design. Where the plug, this plug would screw in to the oil pan there's a welded in basket for lack of s better word where the screw threds in making the mishimoto magnetic drain plug a misfit because of the magnet on the tip of the plug.
