An Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) valve is a critical component in a vehicle’s emission control system. It recirculates a portion of the engine’s exhaust gases back into the intake manifold to be burned again. This process reduces nitrogen oxide (NOx) emissions by lowering the combustion temperature, helping the vehicle meet emissions regulations, and improving fuel efficiency.
Exhaust Gas Recirculation (EGR) Valve Gasket Failure Symptoms- Rough Idle: A faulty EGR valve can cause a rough or unstable idle, as incorrect amounts of exhaust gases are recirculated into the intake manifold
- Check Engine Light: An issue with the EGR valve can trigger the check engine light. Common error codes for a failing EGR valve include P0400 to P0408, related to EGR flow or circuit issues
- Poor Fuel Economy: If the valve is stuck open, it can lead to excessive recirculation, reducing combustion efficiency and lowering fuel economy
