Drum Brake Wheel Cylinder

A drum brake wheel cylinder is a hydraulic component in drum brake systems. It is mounted inside the brake drum and uses hydraulic pressure from the master cylinder to push pistons outward, forcing the brake shoes against the drum surface to slow or stop the vehicle. Wheel cylinders are crucial for effective braking but can wear out over time due to heat, corrosion, and seal deterioration.

Drum Brake Wheel Cylinder Failure Symptoms
  • Brake fluid leaks – visible fluid around the drum or inside the wheel, often causing low brake fluid levels.
  • Poor braking performance – soft brake pedal, reduced stopping power, or uneven braking.
