Direct ignition coils are located directly over the top of the spark plug. In this ignition setup there is one ignition coil per spark plug and there are no spark plug wires. This ignition setup is often referred to as a coil on plug ignition system.

Coil on plug or direct ignition systems are pretty much used on all modern cars due to packaging, performance, emissions, and maintenance reasons. This ignition system is essentially maintenance free with the exception of spark plug replacements and the occasional coil replacement when compared to a traditional ignition system.

About Prenco

Founded in 1939 by Mr. J.K. Chmel, Prenco was an Czechoslovakian immigrant of Canada who was originally from Europe but fled in an effort to escape the war. He sought out to produce aircraft parts for the allied war effort and as a result opened up his factory in Toronto bringing his manufacturing expertise to North America to assist the Canadian war effort. Chmel created Prenco as one of Canada's first aircraft parts manufacturing plants. It was then in 1941 that Prenco was incorporated to product aircraft hydraulics and various other related parts for the allied war effort. Today Prenco celebrates over 75 years of precision, performance, and passion while continuing to produce specialty ignition parts in the automotive industry.
