Socket

Tool sockets are essential for a do-it-yourselfer as they allow fast, efficient, and precise tightening or loosening of fasteners, especially in tight or hard-to-reach spaces. They provide better leverage when used with ratchets or impact tools, reduce the risk of rounding off bolt heads, and come in a variety of sizes and drive types to fit different vehicles and applications.

Socket Failure Symptoms
  • Rounding or stripping of the internal drive – The inside corners become worn, causing the socket to slip on fasteners.
  • Cracks or splits in the socket wall – Often from over-torquing or impact stress, making the socket unsafe to use.
  • Loss of grip on the drive tool – The square drive opening wears out or distorts, leading to a loose fit on the ratchet or impact wrench.
