Water pump failures are a common occurrence on high mileage engines. A water pump failure is never a convenient experience and it usually leaves you stranded where you don't want to be stranded. We recommend replacing your BMW's water pump every 60,000 miles as a regular service to ensure that you are never stranded anywhere.

Engine Water Pump

Your vehicles engine water pump is responsible for keeping coolant flowing through the engine. As water pumps get old the internal bearing can go bad causing noise and a coolant leak. A good indicator that your water pump is failing is if you see coolant leaking through the water pump "weep hole".

Short life
Only lasted 17,000 miles before getting shaft play and signs of leaking. Hopefully the exchange unit lasts longer.

Good quality build pump, but paper gasket
The quality of the water pump is very good. It has a metal impeller and it fits just fine into my car. I haven't run the car yet, but I'll update this if I have any issues. The shipment came with a bent paper gasket, and is not confidence inspiring. I'd recommend getting a genuine BMW metal gasket. Not sure if Geba has a paper gasket or metal gasket on theirs, but something to consider.
