Replaces all major components of your BMW's timing system

Timing chains are usually a lifetime component in most engines. However, due to several circumstances timing chains can stretch and guide rails can wear down to the point where these components will need to be replaced. This timing chain kit has been assembled in house to address the most common wear items of your timing system and will restore your BMW's M62TU engine back to factory condition.

You may also want to consider replacing the upper timing chains, BMW part number 11311747437, which drive the camshaft, these are rarely ever an issue but it could be worth your time to replace them while the engine is torn apart.

Engine Timing Chain Kit

An engine timing chain is a crucial component in an internal combustion engine that synchronizes the rotation of the crankshaft and camshafts. It ensures that the engine's valves open and close at the proper times during each cylinder's intake and exhaust strokes, maintaining optimal engine performance. In hindsight, the smaller cam to cam chains, P/N: 11311747437, should be part of the kit as the job is more time consuming than difficult. You have the whole front open and replacing all these "consumables", so might as well do these. In addition the oil separator should be there too as the thermoplastic items degrade over time and become quite brittle.

This kit is very complete and replaces a lot of components. The only kit that takes it even further is KIT-11311741746KT1 which replaced the valley pan gasket, coolant pipe o-rings, crankcase vent parts, etc.

We carry an array of timing tools for your X5 ([click here](/BMW-parts/X5?year=2003&e=188&m=227&keywords=timing%20tool)) but we do not have a tool rental program at this time. To do a replacement on the timing chain and guides you will need at minimum a crank and cam lock set.

A bad timing chain or stretched timing chain will cause error codes and usually cause a rattling noise inside the timing case.
