Product Information

Your BMW's tie rod assemblies consist of two parts; the inner tie rod which connects to the steering rack and the outer tie rod which attaches to the steering knuckle. We see high mileage tie rod assemblies develop play on the inner ball joint as well as the tie rod end ball joint. Play in these assemblies results in a vague steering feel and play in the steering as well. We typically recommend replacing the tie rod assemblies as a whole instead of replacing the individual components.

Please note: Lemforder has changed the anti-corrosion coating on the outer tie rod end from a black to a silver finish. Stock will be mixed for the foreseeable future and you may receive mismatched color outer tie rod ends with your assemblies. This does not affect the fit or function of the tie road assembly.

Steering Tie Rod Assembly

The tie rods of your vehicle play a critical role as they're the link between the power steering rack and pinion and the wheel spindle. Tie rod ends contain ball joints that tend to wear out over time due to constant wear and tear. When the ball joints within the tie rod wear out, it allows for play within the wheels which can throw off your alignment and cause uneven tire wear. Its always encouraged to check your tie rod ends for play as well as tires for uneven wear at every service interval. When replacing worn tie rod ends its always recommend to replace them in pairs as well as to perform an alignment.

Steering Tie Rod Assembly Failure Symptoms
  • Uneven tire wear
  • Play in wheels
  • Pulling condition when driving
  • Sloppy steering

Left Tie Rod Assembly
The inner tie rod had a little gap in it, I guess it’s just a defected part the one I got, because the right one was just fine.

Direct replacement for E46 M3's. Identical to the ones I removed in every way.
