Product Information

Complete tie rod assembly which includes the inner tie rod and tie rod end

Tie rods are a commonly overlooked replacement item on high mileage vehicles. In general, tie rods develop play in the ball joints over time which results in poor steering response as well as the inability to properly align the vehicle. If your BMW's steering feel isn't as precise as it used to be it is likely due to worn out tie rods.

When replacing your tie rods it's also recommended to inspect and replace the steering rack bellows if they are old, worn, or have holes in them. The steering rack boot prevents moisture, dirt, and other debris from damaging the steering rack or inner tie rod end.

Steering Tie Rod Assembly

The tie rods of your vehicle play a critical role as they're the link between the power steering rack and pinion and the wheel spindle. Tie rod ends contain ball joints that tend to wear out over time due to constant wear and tear. When the ball joints within the tie rod wear out, it allows for play within the wheels which can throw off your alignment and cause uneven tire wear. Its always encouraged to check your tie rod ends for play as well as tires for uneven wear at every service interval. When replacing worn tie rod ends its always recommend to replace them in pairs as well as to perform an alignment.

Steering Tie Rod Assembly Failure Symptoms
  • Uneven tire wear
  • Play in wheels
  • Pulling condition when driving
  • Sloppy steering

Decent
Had mines installed for about 3 years , 20k miles . I have sport suspension and 18 in M parallels as a reference. I recently started having a loose steering sensation going over the smallest bumps. It turns out the tie rod bushings were both worn out . They look in tact but are not tight at all .Point is they were good for a short period of time . Lemforder is the way to go for about the same price.

Questions & Answers

Ask a question
Question Posted by David
I put this on my car and can't seem to get enough adjustment pick it of it to get the wheel straight. Is it possible my car (2002 BMW 525i Non-Msport suspension) uses a different tie rod?
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
The control arms and tie rods on an E39 are the same regardless of whether the vehicle has a M Sport suspension or standard suspension. If adjustment is an issue there could be a problem elsewhere either being a bent control arm or other suspension damage.
