The S54 engine is legendary for its rev happy nature and power. BMW chose to use solid lifters instead of hydraulic lifters to improve drivetrain durability and reliability at high engine speeds. However, the one downside to this setup is it requires valve lash adjustments every 30,000 miles and failure to do so can result in performance problems and engine damage in extreme cases.

This kit comes with everything you are going to need in order to professionally service your S54 powered BMW's valve train. it includes BMW's magnetic installation tool, valve shim set, valve cover gasket set, and all additional hardware.

Missing feeler gauges
Why would this not include everything I need to do a valve service? "Service kit" should be the only thing I need to purchase. Not including something like a micrometer is understandable, but who has bmw feeler gauges laying around?

Not enough shims
awesome set with everything you need (except feeler gauges) except enough shims!! I used almost the entire first row for the intake side and only was able to finish off 3/6 on the exhaust side. Should be more of the first row section, otherwise pretty happy with this product.

Right diameter for S54, had the sizes I needed for my adjustment

Missing the oil return line crush washers
Was bummed when i realized this did not include crush washers for the oil return line. Shims all measured as marked, but sadly made in China and even worse was my luck that I ran out of 2 shim sizes and did not have enough from other valves to finish the job. Ordered another set of shims as they are a great deal compared to the BMW ones after all. I wish i ordered 2 shim kits just in case...

This kit included two extra REI-703650700 grommets (13 are required; 15 are included). I found that, of the 8 shims I used from the Wiseco kit, one of them was quite a bit thicker than its labeling indicated.
