Product Information

Referred to as a camber link by BMW, rear coil spring sits on this arm

This rear camber link is the main connecting point between the subframe and rear spindle assembly. This link also contains the lower spring perch and provides camber adjustment by rotating the eccentric bolt and washer.

Suspension Control Arm

Control arms are crucial link in a vehicle's suspension connecting the suspension to a vehicle's subframe. These pieces are usually hinged to allow for suspension to travel and articulate as the vehicle rides over obstructions in the road and while the vehicle turns. Many vehicles such as those with independent suspensions have multiple links and feature several connection points and arms to offer better ride quality and comfort.

As bushings and joints in a control arm begin to wear you may notice a looseness feel in your suspension. And while many arms have replaceable and serviceable individual components, many still require the replacement of the entire arm. Below are signs of when a replacement control arm may be needed:

Suspension Control Arm Failure Symptoms
  • Play in suspension joints where these arms meet the subframe and/or knuckle
  • Buckling noise emanating from the suspension
  • Uneven tire wear
  • Inability to properly align vehicle
  • Shutter or vibration coming from the steering wheel at highway speed
  • Wandering or pulling sensation from side to side felt on the steering wheel

About Genuine BMW

The original parts used by BMW to build your car are available as replacement parts under the “Genuine BMW” brand. When ordering a Genuine BMW part you are guaranteed to get the same part that you would pick up from your local dealerships part department. Genuine BMW parts have been built to BMW’s stringent standards and are the same quality of the original parts used to build your Ultimate Driving Machine.

You may not realize this, but the parts that make up your BMW are not necessarily manufactured by BMW. No cause for concern, as BMW designs the part, hires a manufacturer, and ensures its quality to you. In fact, many of these manufacturers have been making parts for BMW for decades. In our industry these manufacturers are called OEM (Original Equipment Manufacturers), and these are often brands you recognize, including Lemforder, ZF, Sachs, Bosch, Valeo, Zimmermann, Siemens VDO, Corteco, and more. Don’t be surprised to open that Genuine BMW parts box and find an OEM branded part inside, simply with the addition of a BMW logo.

Be sure to keep an eye out for OE tags on our product pages to quickly identify parts coming direct from OE manufacturers. That extra bit of insight could save you some serious money while shopping! Refer to our OE Academy for further information regarding the OE/OEM tags throughout the site.

Questions & Answers

Ask a question
Question Posted by Reginald
I have a 135i and want to upgrade my rears to this, I've already upgraded my rear to the BMW 11-Piece M3 Control Arm Upgrade Kit. This should fit right? since it's also for the 1M and I also want to know what else do I need? Like bolts, nuts and bushings. Please and thank you.
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
This would not be a direct replacement and would require additional spring hardware as well as mounting hardware to successfully mount.
Question Posted by a customer
If I'm doing an m3 rear suspension upgrade to my 328xi with the m3 shocks will I be able to use my original 328xi rear springs and rear lower shims on these m3 control arms? Or will I have to use the m3 rear springs or an aftermarket m3 equivalent to fit them properly?
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
Likely, you will need to convert to an M3 spring if you're retrofitting.
Question Posted by Duane
Can you give me a list of all required components needed to do e90 to e9 m3 upgrade?
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
To upgrade the non-M E90 suspension to M3 suspension, please refer to our premade kits for both front and rear. https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw-control-arm-kit-5-piece-m-upgrade-bmwmcakit & https://www.fcpeuro.com/products/bmw-m3-control-arm-upgrade-kit-e82-e88-e90-e91-e92-e93-bmwmcaktr
Question Posted by Duane
Will this plate fit all e90 chassis?
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
Not 100% sure what you're asking. If you're referring to the E9X (E90/E92/E93) M3 then yes, this control arm fits all 2008-2013 M3's. If you're asking if this will fit all non-M E9X chassis (E90/E91/E92?E93) models the answer is yes and no. Yes, it can be used as an upgrade if you're willing to install all M3 rear suspension components including shocks as the mount is different. No, it is not a direct install without extensive parts replacement.
Question Posted by Phillip
Is there a kit available that includes the mounting hardware as well? I would like to include this as part of my M3 suspension conversion(I am purchasing M3 rear coilovers for compatibility with this control arm).
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
We do not have a kit for the mounting hardware however, we do have a 3D diagram in the description tab that shows every nut and bolt within the surrounding area of the control arm in which you can select which hardware you need, and purchase accordingly.
