Radiator

Your radiator is an integral, and arguably, the most important part of the cooling system. It is designed to expel heat from the coolant via the small fins. Most radiators fail when the end tanks crack causing leaks, but higher mileage radiators which have missing or bent fins often are clogged up with debris which can also cause overheating issues as the radiator cannot expel heat effectively. If your radiator is in rough shape we recommend replacing it. We also highly recommend inspecting/replacing the upper and lower radiator hose at that time.

Radiator Failure Symptoms
  • Overheating
  • Coolant Leak
  • Cracking
  • Bent Fins
  • Clogged Fins caused by debris

About Mahle Behr

Mahle Behr GmbH & Co. KG is a German corporation active in the automobile industry, headquartered in Stuttgart-Feuerbach. It is a specialist for automotive air conditioning and engine cooling systems. Mahle began in 1920 when pistons made of heavy gray cast iron were being used in internal combustion engines for automobiles and there was a need for a new design. The Mahle brothers countered this trend by producing light-alloy pistons at their small, newly established company however the technology was still finicky and problems come up frequently. They soon determined that they needed to come up with a solution to keep dirt and dust out of the engine so they eventually developed air and oil filters as well. Their perseverance paid off and the light-alloy pistons began to take over the market. Today, half of all automobiles produced worldwide contain MAHLE components. MAHLE offers an extensive range of parts for everyone including pistons, cylinder liners, piston ring sets, bearings, assemblies, valves, valve train components, and air, oil, fuel, and cabin air filters. Their catalog and online database of aftermarket engine components is an indispensable reference. In early 2016, Stuttgart-based MAHLE GmbH increased its holding in the Behr Group from 36.85 percent to approximately 51 percent with the acquisition of all shares in the BWK GmbH holding company. The company now goes by Mahle-Behr.

Lasted 5 years
Well 5 years is better than one month... but at $165 to replace and a couple of hours under the hood to do it all over again I am not too thrilled.

Leaks/Poor Quality
Listen to the other reviews for this product before you even consider buying. Less than 10k miles after the repair, it developed a leak on the bottom driver's side crimp seam, which seems to be a common theme. Don't waste your time and money and just look elsewhere.

Believe the bad reviews
I overhauled my cooling system 14 months ago. I just had to replace this radiator due to one side leaking at the crimp seam much like what the others said. Not what you want to discover right before a cross country roadtrip. Less than a 5k mile failure is a bad look for the brand.

Lasted barely a year
It took slightly less than one year for this radiator to develop a leak between the plastic end cap and the core. Another poor quality aftermarket part. The FCP "lifetime" warranty on the parts is fine, but no one is warrantying my time to do the work.

Poor Quality Product - Not worth it
I bought this Mahle radiator in Apr 2023, it started leak near driverside bottom in Oct 2024. Under FCP Euro Lifetime warranty replaced with Nissen in Oct 2024 which started leaking right out of the box. Replaced that in Oct 2024 with this Mahle radiator again. It started leaking again in Dec 2025 at exactly same spot driver side-bottom. Tried crimping the tabs past 3-4 months but the leak persists. I have chatted with FCP Euro several times about this substandard product yet they continue to offer it and even raised prices. I would not buy this radiator again.

Leaks!
This radiator ended up leaking within two years. Was caught early at a shop after being taken in for a thermostat fault.

Low Longevity
Used this unit on my 2010 e90 N52 replacing the original BMW branded one in 2023. This Mahle Behr unit looked good initially, but after two years is leaking on the side where the plastic meets the metal. Trying a different one now as replacement for the replacement.

Terrible
I would have had better luck with an off the shelf at Autozone. Its been almost one year not quite and it leaks at both lower end tanks. I wouldn't even waste my time with warranty. I'm cutting my losses and going elsewhere.

Avoid this radiator
I see FCP no longer sells these and for good reason. I got 2 years, 6 months, 16 days and 14,617 miles on this new Mahle radiator before it tanked. Avoid at all costs.

leaked after two years - as reported by other users
This would be the 2nd time - bough one in 2021, replaced in 2023 , and now again - not reliable piece - but the BMW E90 330i is 20 years old, the leak forces me to do an expensive coolant flush ! [ radiator replacement ]

Question Posted by Aftab
Does this come with the drain plug installed?
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
Yes, the drain plug would be installed on these applications.
Question Posted by yvette
Does the Radiator come with the sensor
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
No, this is not compatible to SULEV vehicles and does not include any sensor.
Question Posted by a customer
Does this part have a sensor hole for a CA emissions sensor?
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
No, this radiator will not work with an N51 SULEV car for several reasons. It does not include the ozone sensor on the radiator which will create an instant check engine light. Also, the SULEV radiator is coated with a special coating that reduces Ozone. If you managed to swap the sensor from your stock radiator to this one it would still cause a check engine light due to increased ozone emissions from the radiator.
Question Posted by a customer
Where is the drain plug on the radiator to drain the coolant or do I need to unhook one of the bottom hoses
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
See the third photo. The drain plug is a 6-point plastic nut on the bottom of the left end tank.
Question Posted by a customer
how can i find the sensor do you guys sell them
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
Yes, we'll most likely have it available. You'll need to enter your YMM into the vehicle selector and navigate to the cooling system category. Provide us with the YMM of your BMW and the exact sensor you're looking for if you're unable to find it.
Question Posted by a customer
do i have to transfer old sensor on radiator to the new one or can i just buy the sensor
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
You can reuse the old sensor OR purchase a new sensor accordingly.
Question Posted by a customer
Why is your site saying it doesn't fit my 2009 328i n52 engine?
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
Fitment guide confirms the following fitment: 2009 BMW 328i Radiator Engine code: N52B30A, Transmission: Automatic
Question Posted by a customer
There are 2 drain plugs a long one and short one, after researching it looks like the auto bmw needs the long plug and the manual one needs the short one. Which drain plug is in this radiator?
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
The long and short plug only apply to Genuine BMW radiators. This radiator uses a standard style plug and does not require installation of a different style plug.
Question Posted by Cyrus
I read elsewhere that the drain plug on this radiator is different than the OE BMW radiator. Is the drain plug included with the radiator, and is it also something we can replace separately (do you have a part number for this drain plug)?
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
Correct. The drain plug is completely different than the OE plug. It is pre-installed on the radiator out of the box. It is not a replaceable item
Question Posted by a customer
Would this work even with a N51 automatic transmission??
Answer (Posted by FCP Euro Products Team)
No, this radiator will not work with an N51 SULEV car for several reasons. It does not include the ozone sensor on the radiator which will create and instant check engine light. Also, the SULEV radiator is coated with a special coating which reduces Ozone. If you managed to swap the sensor from your stock radiator to this one it would still cause a check engine light due increased ozone emissions from the radiator. You will need p/n 17117537292 for an automatic equipped car. SULEV cars have 15 year 150,000 mile warranty. If the radiator is leaking it should be covered under the warranty since it's technically an emissions component with the EAC sensor located on the radiator.
