Comprehensive overhaul kit, includes everything you need to refresh your E46's cooling system

A lot has been written on the E46 3-series cooling system. In our opinion no source is as definitive as Mango's thread on E46Fanatics. Not only is this resource great for first time BMW owners it's also great for seasoned E46 owners who have dealt with failed expansion tanks, cracked radiators, and failed water pumps.

This kit has been built around the premise of that thread and includes all major cooling system parts that are notorious problems on the E46 3-series. Included in this kit are the recommended parts from the E46Fanatics thread. This kit features a Saleri OEM water pump, Modine/CoolXpert OEM expansion tank, Wahler thermostat, and Nissens radiator. Additionally, we include OEM Contitech drive belts, OEM Rein upper/lower radiator hoses, and other supporting hardware.

The only thing not included in this kit are the belt tensioners or pulleys. Due to mixed installation of pulleys/tensioners and also because many will have different replacement intervals on these components we have decided to keep these as option. Please see the links below for the belt tensioners and idler pulley.

Cooling System Service Kit

A cooling system service involves checking and replenishing the coolant fluid in a vehicle's engine cooling system, typically including inspecting hoses, belts, the radiator, water pump, and thermostat for leaks, damage, or wear, and replacing the coolant with fresh fluid if necessary; failure symptoms include a rising temperature gauge on the dashboard, visible coolant leaks, steam coming from under the hood, low coolant levels, and a sweet smell near the engine

"For want of a nail the kingdom was lost."
My e46 wagon was beginning to have minor cooling system hiccups. I've learned that you simply must replace everything at once. I've had many BMWs in the past and have experienced failure of each component that this comprehensive kit offers. On my Z3 the clutch seizure leading to fan blade explosion was the most destructive. It took out the radiator, dented the hood and cut multiple hoses. What I realized too late this time is that the three allen head bolts that connect the fan to the clutch are not included in this kit. This is a silly omission. My original bolt heads are rusty crusty and stripped. I certainly am not going to re-use the bolts goin forward. I had to temporarily put the original clutch and fan back on the car and will eventually replace them with the new components once I get the new bolts. I'm sure you've heard the expression "For want of a nail the kingdom was lost." It is worrying that I need to continue to use the old clutch no matter how temporarily, given how catastrophic its failure could be. FCP Euro, please include the bolts in the kit. You already include the four bolts for the water pump pully. What's 3 more bolts?

Instead of slowly bleeding to death with fixing a leak here and another one days later there I bought this complete kit and it delivers as advertised! 18K miles into it, my leaking headaches are a thing of the past... Thanks FCP!

Awesome bit of kit
I didn't install but according to mechanics it was just as good of quality as genuine parts with very easy install all in a convenient package. Only critique they had is the fan clutch bolts should be included as well as the heads can strip out after disassembling the fan assembly multiple times in order to get to other repairs. Other than that its well worth the money in order to give you peace of mind that your engine will not overheat.

Great kit but...
Love the kit, but if you are going to overhaul the solid pipes under the manifold should be done as well. I'd love to see this kit + the new hose kit combined. While you are in there getting greasy, just do it all and be done with it. Otherwise the kit was great, I wish it came with a better guide but I was able to make my way through it.

The kit all fit perfectly and included everything I would have hoped to replace while it was apart. I couldn't figure out where the 3 included O rings went so I assumed they were spares. I also had a little trouble changing out the radiator drain plug in the Neissens radiator because it needed the longer plug for auto trans. That is a tricky removal and replacement but with a little Googling we figured it out. Everything was tight on first try and I'm good as new!

Recently installed overhaul kit in 2003 330XI
Completed my overhaul one week ago, this kit included everything I needed. Everything fit perfect my only recommendation for anyone doing this is to buy the clutch fan spanner wrench. The other thing was the bmw expansion tank bracket was a bit tough to fit onto the BEHR rad. But it worked none the less. No leaks, now I don't have to worry about this.

The fan blades/clutch are not used in manual transmission configuration vehicles, manuals have an electric fan.

No it will not, Sulev cars have a different radiator with the special coating. They are not interchangeble.

E46's are not turbocharged. The part in question is a crush washer that happens to be used for various applications, most commonly a turbocharger coolant line gasket. In this kit, the crush washer is used as an engine block drain plug gasket. At this time limitations of our site only allow us to choose one part type per application set which means for small things like nuts/bolts/washers we can only show one possible fitment.

Sounds like you're referring to the o-rings that come with the radiator. If that is the case those are replacement o-rings for the quick disconnect fittings on the upper and lower radiator hoses and for the expansion tank retainer. Since these parts are included with the hoses/retainer you don't need to use them.
