Comprehensive overhaul kit, includes everything you need to refresh your E46's cooling system

A lot has been written on the E46 3-series cooling system. In our opinion no source is as definitive as Mango's thread on E46Fanatics. Not only is this resource great for first time BMW owners it's also great for seasoned E46 owners who have dealt with failed expansion tanks, cracked radiators, and failed water pumps.

This kit has been built around the premise of that thread and includes all major cooling system parts that are notorious problems on the E46 3-series. Included in this kit are the recommended parts from the E46Fanatics thread. This kit features a Saleri OEM water pump, Modine/CoolXpert OEM expansion tank, Wahler thermostat, and Nissens radiator. Additionally, we include OEM Contitech drive belts, OEM Rein upper/lower radiator hoses, and other supporting hardware.

The only thing not included in this kit are the belt tensioners or pulleys. Due to mixed installation of pulleys/tensioners and also because many will have different replacement intervals on these components we have decided to keep these as option. Please see the links below for the belt tensioners and idler pulley.

Cooling System Service Kit

A cooling system service involves checking and replenishing the coolant fluid in a vehicle's engine cooling system, typically including inspecting hoses, belts, the radiator, water pump, and thermostat for leaks, damage, or wear, and replacing the coolant with fresh fluid if necessary; failure symptoms include a rising temperature gauge on the dashboard, visible coolant leaks, steam coming from under the hood, low coolant levels, and a sweet smell near the engine

Check your shipment
I'm mostly happy with the kit itself, however mine came without a coolant level sensor for some weird reason. Looking back at the list of items it doesn't seem to be mentioned so there's no recourse, but what could possibly be the reason for not including it? Luckily for me, I happened to have one on the shelf so I was able to keep working on the installation but otherwise I would have been screwed. I also did not receive the coolant I ordered. Too late to ask for refund since I was super busy when the shipment arrived and didn't have time to go through it piece by piece and compare the items to part numbers. My bad. I've ordered plenty of other stuff from FCP with excellent results so I assumed they would take care of me this time as well.

OverHaul Kit
If you are looking for something to either refresh or to fix a leaking cooling system this is the kit you need. Everything fit perfect except like the other review the upper radiator hose seemed a bit loose. Other than that its a great kit for the price.

BMW E46 Cooling System Overhaul Kit Review
Everything arrived in good shape. The kit fits without issue, but the parts are from a variety of aftermarket manufacturers. One item to note is that because the different suppliers for the parts in the kit, not all the part tolerances work well with one another. The parts that are assembled with o rings are 'loose' and may need a thicker o ring to seal properly. The ones with the kit are the right size but quite loose fitting, and I ran into three of them that would not seal, and required a oversized o ring to properly seal (the one at the top of the expansion tank holder, and both of the o rings on the expansion tank). Easily solved from Amazon or similar vendors, but did delay reassembly by a couple weeks. Dan B

Cooling System Overhaul Kit
Great kit to fix all the leaks! Surprised that there wasn't a new coolant level sensor for the new expansion tank. Was able to use the one from the old tank, but this would be a nice addition to this kit.

Cooling system Overhaul
This is about the most extensive overhaul kit that can be purchased without breaking the bank it also hits most of the problem parts that you can expect to be faulty past the 150k area. 10/10 would order from FCP EURO again!

Everything fit perfectly. I wish I had ordered the A/C and Main belt tensioners from FCP, picked them up from a local shop the day I started the job and paid more for them. Do yourself a favor and get them here while your ordering this. Took me the good part of a day to remove and replace everything, went smoothly. Highly recommend.

Life saver
Awesome kit, everything you need in one shot, the only extras I ordered was the coolant level sensor/sender and the BMW coolant, had the car disassembled the day the parts were scheduled to arrive and back together the next day and running in less than three hours and wasn't rushing, something you might want to look into is Idler and Tensioners, you're gonna be right there.

The main accessory belt tensioner that can be installed can either be the mechanical or hydraulic tensioner p/n 11281427252 or p/n 11287838797 respectively. The A/C belt tensioner is p/n 11281433571. This kit is for vehicles with an automatic transmission which are equipped from the factory with a fan clutch. If your BMW is a manual transmission it will be equipped from the factory with an electric fan. We also offer a similar kit to this for manual transmission equipped vehicles, p/n 376716261KT.
