Part of your BMW's intake manifold

The intake manifold adjuster, more commonly referred to as a DISA valve, is responsible for helping your BMW produce the best possible output across the rev range. The DISA valve artificially lengthens the intake runner at low RPM's for more low end torque and shortens the intake runners at high RPM's for more top end power.

A failed/failing DISA valve has the following symptoms:

  • Hesitation at low rpm
  • Rough idle
  • Lean codes
  • Loud noises from engine bay

This is very easy to replace for the DIY'er. Simply remove the 2 torx bolts (M6X18), disconnect the electrical connector, and slide the failed unit out.

Failure within 1000 miles
DISA began to “whistle” at idle, started out as a weird humming during low speeds about a week ago, Ordering a new Genuine asap. Pretty disappointed in the REIN quality as of lately.

Failed and started making an insanely loud whining noise 3 months after replacing my old original one. Was louder than the car

Early Failure
This DISA valve lasted 4 thousand miles on daily driving before having 2 different failures. firstly, the pin started backing out and rubbing against the inside of the intake manifold. Second, the valve started making a very loud whistling noise when rpms would drop after the DISA turning on at 3750 rpm. Unless you plan on upgrading it with an extra 60 dollar kit, do not buy this expecting it to be 100% reliable.

Great Replacement
My 2003 325xi was roughing extremely rough at idle and throwing lean and misfire codes…. Began looking for a vacuum leak and heard the dread sound of a huge suction from the DISA. Ordered this replacement DISA and replaced the faulty one in less than 20 minutes (valve shaft on original DISA totally broke creating the vacuum leak). Works perfectly!

Does this come with the o ring around where it comes together at the intake?

Yes. The o-ring/seal is physically molded in place to the DISA valve like the original. It can be seen as the red gasket material in the pictures of this part.

It's possible if it has come apart in the intake manifold blocking an inlet to the cylinder head. However, misfires can stem from bad fuel injectors, bad spark plugs/ignition coils, vacuum leaks, etc. Is it a single cylinder misfire or multiple cylinder misfire?
