One kit per axle, two per car

Your BMW's axle boots usually last the lifetime of your vehicle. However, they can tear which will allow for the lubricating grease to leak out and for water and dirt to get in. If unattended to, the elements from the outside can destroy the axle joint which will result in the replacement of the entire axle assembly. If the tear or hole is caught soon enough you can simply re-grease and reboot the joint saving yourself some money.

CV Joint Boot Kit

A CV joint boot serves to protect the axle joint and axle by keeping out dirt, water, and debris while preserving the grease that lubricates the joint. As a vital component of the drivetrain system, it enables the wheels to move in coordination with the vehicle’s suspension. Regular inspection of CV boots is essential, and they should be replaced before any signs of failure appear. Replacing a boot typically involves removing the old one, reapplying grease, and fitting a new boot, which will require tools for expanding the boot over the joint as well as clamping a special style clamp on both ends to prevent exposure. At the point of service, it is also recommended to expect the condition of the joint, if the joint is damaged, a full joint replacement may be necessary.

CV Joint Boot Kit Failure Symptoms
  • NVH: Clicking or popping sounds when turning or under load caused by binding in the joint during articulation
  • Leakage: Grease splattered on or around the inward-facing side of a wheel and/or suspension components behind the spindle
  • Drone: Humming or growling noises coming from a dry joint or a joint exposed to the elements

Clamp
The clamp was too small for the larger side of the boot. Had to use an aftermarket kit for the same vehicle that had a better clamp with multiple holes for different sizes to actually get it to work. Other than that kit was good.

Missing part
High quality rubber boots and worked very well. My only complaint is that one of the clamps were missing so I had to order another kit.

Not a full kit
This kit does not include the necessary adapter to adapt the weird outer shape of the CV joint to the round shape of the boot. If you already have that adapter then this kit will work, otherwise, get the Rein kit that comes with the adapter.

Wish it was rubber, not plastic, but still decent
Better than replacing a whole axle.... I used a little RTV based on feedback that the rubber does not seal as well, hope it holds up.

inner cv boot
looks and feels like original .this does not come with the adapter,make sure you reuse yours

The clamp is difficult to seal...
The clamp on the large end of the boot is difficult to seal. Even with a good set of clamp pliers and torque wrench, I couldn't get it to seal properly (I could hear air going in and out when I'd compress and extend the axle). I'll likely just buy a new clamp at a local store. Note that every thing else about the kit is first rate.

Not sure what you are referring to in regards to an "insert" but all that is included woth this boot kit is the CV joint boot, two band clamps, and grease.

For this application we do not offer a split boot that can be solvent welded together. The only way to repair this axle is to remove it from the vehicle and disassemble it.
